Film Plateau: Ich glaub’ nie mehr an eine Frau (1929)

This early German sound film, starring the world-renowned Austrian tenor Richard Tauber, was until recently recorded as lost. Thanks to research at the research center CIMS (UGent) and a collaboration between the Cinematek and the Deutsches Filminstitut, this recalcitrant melodrama about forbidden love, desire and homesickness in a port city can be admired again in its full glory.
Although the film has fallen into oblivion today, this crowd-pleaser continued to grace the halls in Ghent and other Belgian and Dutch cities for months and even years. Almost a hundred years after production, Film-Plateau is proud to unleash the Belgian premiere of this restored version on the young Ghent audience.
This screening will be introduced by film history lecturer Daniël Biltereyst.
