As a 'Field Worker', former architect and KASK & Conservatorium teacher Wim Cuyvers set to work over the past year with the Genkse Terril. Although this mountain formed by excavated mine tunnels is an imposing presence, this place has no social function. At the initiative of C-mine, Wim and the Genk community sought out a symbolic purpose for the place.
This process of searching and repurposing was crafted into an engaging docu-fiction film. Starring Eartal and Saban, two young Genk 'street runners' who regularly meet each other at the Terril to voice their dissatisfaction with the world. One day they meet an old man who wants to be buried on the site. Thus the plan arises for a mountain of the dead that serves as a memorial site and national cemetery.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Wim Cuyvers.
