I arrived in Belgium with my mother at the age of eleven. I had lived all my life in Georgia, and the arrival here represented a real upheaval. We lived for eight months in a refugee center. Paradoxically, that is where some of my happiest memories are. This was for me the discovery of diversity, in all its human and cultural richness.
My photographic project aims to highlight the people, stories, and cultures that are not seen enough. It aims to celebrate the beauty of cultures through their traditional clothing, worn not in their country of origin, but here, in their new place of living. Each portrait tells a story of migration, transmission, transformation. It is about bringing to image identities in movement, at the crossroads of two worlds.
