Terril is a performance about father and son, inspired by the Limburg mining past. Danie Jordens grew up as the son of a miner in a large family. A cherished memory is building and flying a kite together with his father on the mine spoil tip of Genk. Met Terril he returns to that moment by building a large wind machine that makes a kite take off – an image that also reflects his fascination for mechanics and spectacle. For this project, Danie works together with his son Jules Jordens, word artist and musician. Their different generations and artistic languages – non-verbal clowning versus words and music – create tension and harmony. What ultimately connects them is their imagination and the urge to share it with an audience.
