Concert "Pathos" with top soloist David Cohen - Leuven Alumni Orchestra

Het Leuvens Alumni Orkest (LAO) will perform a program themed 'Pathos' on December 12 and 13, 2026, under the direction of Hans Casteleyn. These will be remarkable concerts, not least because the LAO gets the chance to accompany one of the world's best cellists! David Cohen is principal cellist of the London Symphony Orchestra, one of the best orchestras in the world. He has already recorded several albums as a soloist, including an album with the cello concerto by Edouard Lalo. It is that concerto, a gem of the nineteenth-century romantic cello repertoire, that Cohen will perform with the LAO. The program further features the overture Don Giovanni van Mozart and Tchaikovsky's best-known and most beautiful symphony: the sixth, nicknamed 'Pathétique'. Tchaikovsky composed this symphony shortly before his death and gave it the nickname it still bears himself. It is emotionally charged music full of passion, drama, and captivating melodies. LAO offers you a wonderful program and a rare opportunity to hear a world-class soloist at work! The presentation is in the hands of Wim De Vilder. The complete program: - Overture 'Don Giovanni' (W.A. MOZART, arr. F. BUSONI) - Concerto for cello and orchestra (E. LALO), with soloist: David Cohen, cello - Symphony No. 6 'Pathétique' (P. TCHAIKOVSKY)
