For several years, 11.11.11. Nevele & Arscene vzw have been organizing an evening together in the context of and for the benefit of the annual 11.11.11. campaign.
11.11.11. is the umbrella for international solidarity. Under the slogan ‘Together against exploitation’, we fight every day for a world without exploitation of people and nature. Because everyone – anywhere in the world – has the right to a dignified existence.
Where people and nature are exploited, we come into action together. Because we cannot accept that one person is worth more than another.
Together we are ‘Strength in Numbers’, a large global movement with thousands of people, groups and organizations demanding a just world. Together we exert pressure and put forward structural solutions. Because only then does every1 get the chance for a dignified existence.
11.11.11 strives for global justice. A world in which social, civil, political, cultural and economic rights are realized for everyone within the limits of the planet. A global system in which socio-economic inequality is reduced, the relationship between people and nature is in balance and democratic values are guaranteed. That is our vision of the future.
To support this justice, we are organizing a music performance with Mi Alma.
Mi Alma consists of two people from Ghent with a heart for Latin American music. Bruno De Castro and Esther Verheye go in search of intimacy, depth and melancholy.
Their voices merge together with the beautiful harmonies of the guitar. Supplemented with small percussion and a touch of trumpet, this duo brings the heartwarming beauty that we all miss in colder days. Maar Mi Alma fits just as well with early spring or warm summer evenings. Mi Alma brings canciones by Omara Portuondo, Natalia Lafourcade, Mercedes Sosa, Buena Vista Social Club, Manu Chao, Mecano and much more.
Esther is a classically trained singer, mezzo-soprano. In addition, she has been singing folk and soft pop songs all her life and writes her own songs. When she discovered Latin American music a few years ago, she felt she had finally found what she had needed all this time. In addition to her solo work in all kinds of projects, she is in several groups, including Duo Mibemol and Duo Dahlia.
Bruno De Castro has long been a fan of the Spanish song. Travels through Cuba, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Chile strengthened that preference. Bruno has been the lead singer of Radio Negra, a Gentse Manu Chao Tributeband, since 2010 and sings with the trio Tree52.
