In a crowded commuter train, on an ordinary morning, a baby cries in its mother’s arms. Because of fatigue, her loneliness, or perhaps her great destitution, she hands her child to the young man standing next to her who offers to help her get her stroller down to the platform. But, at the moment the train doors close, she gets back on the train and disappears, leaving her infant in the arms of the bewildered young man. Catherine Benhamou signs a text that is both moving and punchy, freely inspired by a news item. We discovered it thanks to the La Liseuse reading committee that we share with the Rideau in Brussels. It was an absolute favorite and we decided to bring it to the stage.
