De Symfonie of the Smile: festive New Year's concert with Meraki Wind Quintet

As a New Year's concert, Klassiek op Woensdag puts 5 musicians on stage again, but this time exclusively wind players (flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon). On the program is “The Symphony of the Smile:” beautiful title, right? Did you know that Jupiter van Gustav Holst is so full of rhythm and energy that musicians sometimes affectionately call the piece “the smile”? In this concert program, the Meraki Wind Quintet combines this masterpiece with a number of their favorite works that spontaneously put a smile on their faces. From the theatricality of Jacques Ibert to the chuckling pieces of Malcolm Arnold, and from the lesser-known but beautiful first quintet of Szervansky to the wine-sweet charm of Samuel Barbers Summer Music. A feast of sound and pleasure, after which you walk outside happily.
