In order to investigate better a series of homosexual murders in Greenwich Village, a young cop (Al Pacino) poses as a leather-clad, mustachioed gay man. The film was very poorly received by the gay community at the time, and yet Friedkin does not denigrate homosexuality, or even sadomasochism.
