In 1953, John Cage opened the piano, but decided not to touch a key. That same year, Samuel Beckett let four actors enter the stage to let them wait for something that still has to come. Both made the void a protagonist for the first time. In Nothing happens, twice, two actors and three musicians ask themselves why Cage and Beckett decided at the same time to embrace the standstill and what that tells about our world. As young artists, they look at the silence between the words, the space between the notes, the void, and what hides there. There is looking out, waiting, anticipating, and temporizing to the point of absurdity.
