Chris Eckman

De Amerikaanse singer-songwriter Chris Eckman is without a doubt known to older rockers from the indie-rock band The Walkabouts, who were also very popular in the alternative circuit in Belgium with their album ‘Setting The Woods On Fire’ from 1994 and thanks to many European tours. Chris's musical career started in Seattle, which is audible in his music. Meanwhile, Eckman has been on the road solo for over 20 years as a maker of melancholic indie folk with a leading role for his raspy voice (which seems to get deeper every year). Recently, his fifth album ‘The Land We Knew the Best’ appeared, with among others the prize track ‘Lament’ with which Eckman and his people reach Neil Young & Crazy Horse-like atmospheres! And on the intense ‘Genevieve’ he reminds one of a rootsy Nick Cave of Mark Lanegan, but then with the rough edge of Townes Van Zandt. Besides his own music, Eckman is also a much-requested producer for all kinds of other musicians worldwide, he produced among others albums for Willard Grand Conspiracy, Steve Wynn but also for various Malian musicians including the popular company Tamikrest.
