JUICY is a Brussels duo composed of Sasha Vovk (vocals/keyboards/guitar) and Julie Rens (vocals/keyboards/electronic drums).
The group defines its music as a mix of hip-hop, post-r'n'b with jazz and soul influences.
Juicy is a Belgian duo driven by a deep desire to create sincere and striking moments. Today, the project continues its evolution through a new musical exploration: revisiting its repertoire from a more organic, freer angle, by leaving more room for jazz sonorities and collective interpretation.
Originally very marked by electronic textures and meticulous productions, the tracks of Juicy take on a whole other dimension here. The duo has fun deconstructing, rearranging, and reinventing its compositions to offer unexpected readings, sometimes more stripped-down, sometimes more expansive, but always deeply alive. This approach opens up a new space for play, where improvisation, acoustic dynamics, and the interaction between the musicians become central.
This research is in line with a first collaboration with the pianist Dorian Dumont, who had already rearranged several tracks from the repertoire of Juicy for two pianos. This work had made it possible to reveal another facet of the compositions of the duo, by highlighting their harmonic richness and their narrative potential beyond their initial electronic dressing.
In this continuity, Juicy chooses today to further expand this universe by integrating arrangements for brass. To accompany this new stage, the duo meets up with Thomas Mayade, a long-time accomplice, with whom several striking experiences had already seen the light of day, notably at Couleur Café, Dour or at the Ancienne Belgique (concerts with Brass Band).
Through this proposal designed for the Marni, Juicy imagines an evening built around a single sound thread: the encounter between the arrangements for two pianos signed by Dorian Dumont and the arrangements for brass imagined by Thomas Mayade.
By making these two approaches dialogue, the duo proposes a singular and immersive re-reading of its repertoire, where the electronic textures of the original versions give way to a more acoustic, ample, and moving material. Between the intimacy of the piano and the power of the brass, this creation draws an unprecedented soundscape, thought of as a living, surprising, and deeply embodied experience. instagram
