MATINEE: About the beauty of the margin. Inside, outside, and across the borders of an absurd, but nevertheless true history. July 28, 1914. German tanks roll into Belgium and thereby put an end to just under 100 years of Het Onverdeelde Gebied van Moresnet. A few square kilometers of undefined territory somewhere between Hasselt, Aachen, and Maastricht. It belongs to no other country, but is itself also not a country. Although it does get a postage stamp, a national anthem, and even its own language. From the forgotten mine shafts of history, questions echo about borders, borderlessness, and freedom. We sing and play - in that improbable era from Napoleon to the Eerste Wereldoorlog - between invented borders of invented countries. A border is a fixed line on a map, while the human is a mobile being in search of a place and identity. Does where you live determine who you are? Does the nation form the human, or the other way around? Dig yourself into this absurd, but true story, brought to the tones of the brass band that sounds from the party hall. On the stage, figures from all directions welcome you. Dance along to the beauty of what happens in the margin of borders drawn by great men.
