Then take the first scissors you can find and cut those strings. Even if they are tough or thick. Cut!” With ‘Hele Verhalen Voor Een Halve Soldaat’, Benny Lindelauf has delivered yet another gem in youth literature. One story from this ‘Hele Verhalen’ speaks to us in particular: ‘De Terugkeer van Prins Arthur Zenig the Fifth’. We are making theater out of that. A world-famous puppeteer, Prins Arthur, wants to shine one last time at 'Le Grand Concours des Marionnettes'. This in the presence of the king himself and with a prize pool of 1.5 million crowns. It won't be easy, because his old hands don't play the puppets like they used to. His mother has a plan: she buys him a dwarf girl, Zetta. Zetta will play the puppet. However, it is hard work to perfectly imitate the movements of a puppet and keep the strings taut. During this charade of deception and manipulation, the eccentric Arthur and the little Zetta grow towards each other bit by bit. ‘Prins Arthur V’ is a beautiful and intriguing story with brilliant fairy-tale characters and a surprising plot. It is bathed in a macabre atmosphere full of humor, in the best Tim Burton tradition.
