IMAGO MUNDI, Tears into light – listening to the light

What if sadness is not an end point, but a beginning? Tears into light builds around John Dowlands iconic Lachrimae a contemporary ritual in which mourning, memory, and hope keep each other in balance. The performance is rooted in conversations with residents of a residential care and palliative center. They give this ode to melancholy an unmistakably human voice: vulnerable, but rock-solid and devastatingly honest. Singing, lute, and the warm nurturing sound of the Armenian duduk melt new music by Vladimir Gorlinsky, Sufi poetry, texts by Fleur Pierets, and a visual narrative by Ria Verhaeghe into an intense experience, in which we listen and search for the light.
