Versailles 1715 - Musica Gloria

Beniamino Paganini (traverso, baroque keyboards, maestro al cembalo and musicologist) and Nele Vertommen (baroque oboe, recorder and artistic research) were picked up by radio Klara at the first edition of Twintigers and were given a stage there in the difficult covid year 2020. Since then they have been inseparable and their ensemble Musica Gloria has also become an indispensable part of musical life in Flanders and beyond. Their core repertoire is situated in the high and late baroque and ranges from the most famous to the most unjustly forgotten works. Since their own research plays an important role, they dived into the archives again and this time they found irresistible sonatas and suites, composed by violinist Jacques Huguenet and oboist Pierre Danican Philidor. Huguenet and Philidor worked at the French court around 1715, the year in which Louis XIV died. If his reign had been waning for years by then, music still continued to play a prominent role in Versailles, only to become increasingly important among the bourgeoisie in Paris afterwards.
