Naza

Met Yuval Abraham US – 2026 – DCP – 80′ English spoken, Dutch/French subtitled The film starts at 20:00 The big revelation at the Venice Film Festival was undoubtedly Naza. The film received the longest ovation ever at the festival (more than 30 minutes) and stirs emotions far beyond the festival. In Naza interview Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor 24 former Israeli officers and soldiers about their role in the bombings of Gaza. Annonymously, from the rooftops of Tel Aviv, they talk about a military machinery in which mass surveillance and artificial intelligence are deployed to select targets. The term naza, an abbreviation of the Hebrew nezek agavi (collateral damage), is telling in this regard: civilian casualties are reduced to a figure in a system that makes increasingly larger numbers acceptable. The film barely shows the violence itself. Instead, it lets the voices of the involved soldiers do the work. Their testimonies oscillate between shame, rationalization, and pride, revealing how a system of organized violence is executed by individual humans. Slowly, Naza thus shifts from an investigative documentary to a gripping study of responsibility, technology, and the human capacity to normalize violence.
