PARADISE BIRDS | ARS MUSICA

Once people thought that birds of paradise never touched the ground. Soprano and violin bring floating compositions by Kristine Tjøgersen, Helge Sten and a creation of Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir. Red bird of paradise, black sicklebill, curl-crested manucode, grunting bird of paradise, lesser bird of paradise, emperor bird of paradise, Goldie's bird of paradise, Bruijn's sicklebill, yellow-collared bird of paradise ... The imagination of nature is infinite. Just listing all the birds of paradise that populate the forests of Papua New Guinea and Australia brings a whole spectrum of sounds and colors to life. These birds inspired Kristine Tjøgersen to compose The Shape-Shifters (De Metamorfes). The song of birds of paradise resounds in the voice and the violin – two instruments that, just like people used to think about birds of paradise, never touch the ground! Two exceptional artists with boundless curiosity and an impressive artistic career lend their voice, subtly colored by electronics, to a concert in which the swaying soundscapes of Helge Sten and a creation of the Icelandic Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir can also be heard.
