MusicAn Miller, Koen Vanmechelen & Dimitri Leue - Ode to WonderOn the occasion of her curatorship of Theater aan Zee in 2021, Caroline Pauwels wrote a beautiful ode to wonder. A plea to open your senses and let your ideas evolve. Children are often full of wonder. Why is the sea blue? Why does it get dark? Why is that man bald? Somewhere on the way to adulthood, most of us lose that open-mindedness. Gradually, the fire of curiosity is extinguished: things are just what they are, there is nothing new under the sun. And that is a pity. Wonder gives life color, helps to push our boundaries, and encourages us to question false certainties. In her book 'Ode to Wonder', Caroline Pauwels makes a passionate plea to look at the world with that childlike gaze again. In science and art, but also in the big and small moments of every day. This 'Ode to Wonder' is just as much an ode to the late rector of the VUB, Caroline Pauwels. With texts by Caroline and music she loved. The rector was a public figure with a love for the arts. She was, among other things, curator for Theater Aan Zee. For the VRT, she made the series 'The insights of Caroline Pauwels' and the VRT also made the 'Vier Seizoenen van Caroline Pauwels'. An Miller crawls into the skin of Caroline Pauwels. Although she has mainly worked for television and film in recent years, An has rediscovered her love for the stage with the remarkable play 'Familie' by Milo Rau/NTGent.Fri 6 Nov · 19:30–20:40Kunstencentrum VIERNULVIER · Ghentfrom €29
TheatreMare MadreMare Madre is a poetic performance about the intense bond between a mother and her son, about missing and finding each other again, about drifting away and washing ashore.
A boy walks along the surf and collects artifacts from the North Sea. Ever since his childhood he has been a beachcomber, mesmerized by everything the sea coughs up and swallows. The sea reveals to him a treasure chest full of relics; a punctured lifebuoy, seeds from other continents, a sperm whale that urgently needs to be kept alive.
A mother walks along the surf and collects memories of her son. Ever since his childhood it has been clear that he thinks differently and lives differently. Will she be able to let him go into the wide world? Will he be able to let her go?
With Met Marijke Pinoy and her son Titus De Sutter Pinoy on stage, that story acquires a special vulnerability. The encounter between an experienced actress and a performer without a classical stage background gives extra relief to the story of a mother and her son who are each learning to let go in their own way.
Tom Goossens directs, Marijke Libert & Fred Libert write, Stephan Vanfleteren designs the scenography. Together, inspired by Aäron Fabrice de Kisangani, they bring a performance that aims to be as austere as it is rich in imagery.

MusicLeander Vandereecken & Olivier Vander Bauwede - Release ConcertLeander Vandereecken and Olivier Vander Bauwede both hail from Ghent and are active in the Belgian blues scene. Their collaboration originated in the legendary Missy Sippy Blues & Roots Club, where they still play an active role today as organizers and driving forces behind the jam sessions.
As an acoustic duo, they combine guitar, harmonica, and two-part vocals into a sound that is deeply rooted in traditional blues, while simultaneously sounding fresh and contemporary. Following their debut EP Live From Room 13 (2024), recognition quickly followed. In 2025 they were awarded by the Belgian Blues Federation as Beste Blues Duo and their EP was nominated for Best Belgian Blues Album 2025. Since then, the duo has played in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany and served as the opening act for Australian blues artist C.W. Stoneking.
With Met Side By Side they bring their first full album, featuring original compositions that sound as though they have been around for generations: weathered and deeply anchored in the blues tradition.
Especially for this release concert, the duo is reinforced by none other than Filip Vandebril on double bass and Simon Raman on drums.Fri 6 Nov · 20:00Trefpunt Concertzaal · Ghentfrom €12

MusicDvořák 8 - Alexandra Soumm & Symfonieorkest VlaanderenWith much bravado, violinist Alexandra Soumm links the zest for life of Mozart and Dvořák to the subtlety of Vaughan Williams
Met Allerheiligen and Armistice is November the month to remember what was and to commemorate what should never have happened. Vaughan Williams, marked by the horrors of the Eerste Wereldoorlog, remembers better times with melancholy. In his music, he seeks a way out of the madness of war through stillness, tenderness, and poetry, in a typically English pastoral sound world. Mozart and Dvořák, on the other hand, burst with zest for life and happy memories of home. Mozart in the Viennese way, Dvořák with a warm wink to his Bohemian roots.Sat 7 Nov · 20:00–22:00Muziekcentrum De Bijloke Gent · Ghentfrom €10

The Voices of Things is a rare opportunity to see, touch, and explore a unique collection of uncommon objects, guided by the man who spent his life gathering them.

Sat 7 Nov · 20:30–22:30House of Mysteries · Ghentfrom €29

MusicDarker ✩ The Songs of Leonard Cohen ✩ Clubshow Missy SippyA musical narration around the timeless songs of Leonard Cohen.
Clothed in a warm acoustic mantle and with stories about his lifelong quest for happiness.
Ten years after his passing, Geert Bouckaert, known for his acclaimed Johnny Cash tributes, and the celebrated singer and multi-instrumentalist Liselotte Van Dooren bring the greatest successes of the Canadian singer, songwriter, and poet Leonard Cohen back to life. Van Suzanne to his artistic testament Happens to the Heart.
The duo has stripped the songs down and reduced them to their essence: two enchanting voices that blend perfectly and an acoustic guitar, supplemented here and there with a touch of piano, a streak of violin, a riff on the harmonica or the melodica.
Between the songs, master storyteller Bouckaert dives deep into the turbulent life of the singer with a strong sense of pitch-black humor, which was also characteristic of Cohen himself, and reflects on the various ways in which the godfather of gloom tried to overcome his innate sadness: first with tons of drugs and rivers of alcohol, later with a truckload of antidepressants, throughout his life with various religions and diverse philosophies, but above all with many, many women.
A Sunday afternoon dedicated to the brilliant Leonard Cohen.

MusicOrpheus and Eurydice, Christoph Willibald GluckThe iconic aria J’ai perdu mon Eurydice from Glucks Orphée and Eurydice is etched into the collective memory. After the singer Orpheus has brought back his beloved Eurydice from the underworld through the power of his music, he loses her for a second time. In his rock-solid music drama, the composer shows himself a master of restrained emotion. Gluck says farewell to the bravura arias and complicated plot twists of Baroque opera. Singing, text, and orchestration are entirely at the service of a deeply lived-through tragedy that is brought forward with striking directness using only three protagonists (Orphée, Eurydice, Amour) and with a dramatically active role for the chorus.
Gluck initially wrote the opera in Italian in 1762 and realized a French version for the Parijse Opéra in 1774. OBV brings Hector Berlioz's 1859 reworking, which is anything else than a mere duplicate of the original, but full-blooded French opera with extra music. Maestro Francesco Corti, who signed for a fiery Don Giovanni last season, once again guarantees thrilling music drama on the edge of the knife.Wed 4 Nov · 20:00–22:00De Bijloke · Ghentfrom €18.50+2 more dates

TheatreAn intimate evening of Magic with Jonas De BruynFrom international events to some of the most extraordinary private settings in the world: Jonas De Bruyn usually creates his magic for an audience located just a few meters away from him.
For one evening, he brings that experience to House of Mysteries.
Only 30 guests. No big stage. No distance.
In this exclusive intimate experience, the boundary between performer and audience blurs. Thoughts are read. Intuition is tested. Coincidence starts to feel suspicious. And the closer you get to the magic, the harder it becomes to explain what is really happening.
An adult evening in which magic merges with psychology, perception, intuition, humor, and human connection.
Because in a world where everything is moving faster and faster and almost nothing seems out of reach anymore, real wonder perhaps becomes one of the rarest experiences.
For one evening, we make room for that again.
Close-up magic. Personal. Unpredictable.

MusicTears into Light - Sofie Vanden Eynde & Imago MundiJohn Dowland meets Armenian mourning music in this love letter to melancholy
You have to dare it: composer Vladimir Gorlinsky got to work with John Dowlands ‘Lachrimae’ and wove the Elizabethan pearl with Armenian traditional music. Result: an enchanting amalgam in which lute, duduk, and electronics meet. The stories come from conversations with residents of residential care centers and get a voice in new texts by Fleur Pierets and Sufi poetry. Melancholy as a space for reflection: a performance that does not ward off the darkness, but approaches it as a lover.Wed 11 Nov · 20:00–22:00Muziekcentrum De Bijloke Gent · Ghentfrom €10
TheatreBest beforeRobrecht Vanden Thoren looks at his sweetheart. There she sits, headphones on, thumb on the screen, probably looking for baby stuff. She wants a child. They are about to embark on that adventure - the last strip is out of the packaging, the hormones are finding their rhythm, life is ready for the next step. Just as it should be.
Apart from his receding hairline, everything seems fine for Robrecht in Ten minste houdbaar tot. He has a job, a girlfriend, a life that runs smoothly. But still, there is that restlessness: the world around him is raging. War, climate, the unhinged fellow human being. And then there is that other doubt - love itself. He falls in love so easily, what if he can't keep it up? What if, in the middle of the storm, he no longer knows how to stand his ground? The future is wobbling like a drunkard. Will he throw everything overboard tonight?Wed 11 Nov · 20:00–22:00Compagnie Cecilia · Ghentfrom €16+1 more date
CinemaThe Mountain Cat (1921)A charming lieutenant on his way to a remote fort is kidnapped by a bunch of mountain bandits. When the gang leader's daughter falls for this young officer, his captivity turns into an absurd love adventure. What in the hands of anyone else would be a simple melodrama completely derails under Lubitsch into a wacky comedy full of militaristic nonsense, wild mustaches, and infatuated rogue antics.
With its exuberant decor, expressionistic sets, and anarchist humor, Ernst Lubitsch turns the army into a playground where logic mostly gets in the way. Victory celebrations without victory, soldiers who would rather dance than fight, and military maneuvers that resemble a slapstick ballet more than anything else. Die Bergkatze ('The Wildcat') is a delightfully unhinged early Lubitsch, in which the director clearly had no intention yet of sticking to a single genre or a decent plot.
With live accompaniment by Bart Maris and classical music students.Wed 11 Nov · 20:30–22:30KASKcinema · Ghentfrom €4
MusicColtrane 100 - Joe Lovano, Melissa Aldana, Nduduzo Makhathini, Linda May Han Oh, Jeff 'TaLived-in craft, youthful energy, spiritual traditions: this ode to the greatest by the greatest has it all
If almost all musicians have already stood on our stage with their own band, then you know: for the celebration of John Coltranes hundredth birthday, only a supergroup is good enough. With icon Joe Lovano and up-and-coming talent Melissa Aldana, lived-in craft and youthful energy melt together on sax. Pianist Nduduzo Makhathini brings the musical and spiritual traditions of South Africa along. Linda May Han Oh travels literally and figuratively all over the world with her bass. En Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts, already for decades a drummer at the side of the very greatest, is also finally to be seen in our hall for the first time. To say it with Lovano: “We see Coltrane’s compositions as a springboard to explore and express ourselves. This is music in the spirit of the master.”Thu 12 Nov · 20:00–22:00Muziekcentrum De Bijloke Gent · Ghentfrom €10
MusicStavroz Ambient Live Show with Ksawery KomputerySTAVROZ - Ambient Live Show With Ksawery KomputeryStavroz brings an exclusive Ambient Live show to Wintercircus, specifically conceived for this stage in collaboration with Ksawery Komputery. Far removed from the band's usual dancefloor-oriented shows, this one is made for the couch: beatless, spacious and unhurried. Familiar pieces dissolve into new arrangements, drifting between ambient electronics, live instrumentation and improvisation. An hour of music that breathes, built around peaks and valleys that rise and fall. Keys, bass guitar, guitar, saxophone, trumpet and modular synthesiser trade places throughout the set, sometimes just one instrument carrying the room, sometimes four at once, always in conversation. The modular synth holds a steady atmospheric undercurrent while the rest of the band steps forward and back. The backdrop for the night is set by Ksawery Komputery, the creative technology studio behind HOLOTRIGGER. Their visual installation transforms Wintercircus from the moment doors open, and keeps running after the concert as an atmospheric closing loop. An hour before the show, biøs (sound artist and sound designer from the Ksawery Komputery studio) takes over the Arena with an ambient layer of his own. Music lover, dreamer, or just in the mood for an evening with nowhere to rush to? This one's built to disappear into. STAVROZHailing from the land of compromise in the heart of Europe, the four friends of Stavroz found each other in the east of Flanders. In its inception, IJsbrand De Wilde & Gert Beazar focussed mainly on playing DJ sets and creating music in which they loved colliding worlds. Only a few years later they hooked up with Maxim Helincks & Pieter De Meester to expand their DJ activities to a performing band and continued to try and find an unbeaten path in electronic music. This culminated in their delicately acoustic, organic and cinematic approach to electronic music, earning them second place for “best producer” and “best breakthrough artist” in national awards for Belgium’s electronic scene. Their EP “The Ginning” resulted in an early breakthrough, reaching gold status in France, dominating the nr. 1 spot on the Hype Machine, and chosen as vinyl of the month by Germany's “Faze Magazine” — mainly thanks to the B-side “The Finishing”, starring a compelling solo on the tenor saxophone. To keep freedom in their music production, they started their own record label, Moodfamily, on which their second hit single “Gold Town” was released. It held the nr. 1 spot on Beatport’s “Electronic Top 100” for months and was picked up by Rockstar Entertainment for GTA V's in-game music. Now 11 years in, many of Stavroz’s songs are still relevant, quietly nudging towards timelessness — over half a million monthly Spotify listeners, over 100,000 followers, and 100 million plays across major streaming platforms. Their live performances have taken them to Coachella, Fusion Festival, Wonderfruit, Pukkelpop, Strawberry Fields, Tropico and Three Points Festival, and their acclaimed Cercle session at Fort Saint-Eynard, France, remains one of the purest translations of their sound to picture. BIØSJakub Mokrzysiak (biøs) is a music producer and sound engineer rooted in Poland’s Silesian region. For over fifteen years, he has worked at the intersection of electronic music, sound art and new media, moving beyond genre boundaries across ambient music, experimental electronics and spatial composition. An active contributor to southern Poland’s music scene, he is co-curator and sound director at the new media laboratory Tonarium, and artistic director of the Soundscape Foundation. He has collaborated and performed live with the AUKSO orchestra, and received a Gold Record for co-producing and mixing Bass Astral x Igo's album Orell. His performances include appearances at leading Polish electronic music festivals such as Unsound, Audioriver and Up To Date. Multichannel sound installations and immersive audiovisual works conceived for specific spaces form a central part of his practice, presented at venues including the Silesian Museum and ZIMMT in Leipzig. He also performs with Spektrum, an audiovisual project created with Kuba Stelmach, in which sound, image and space form a unified, immersive narrative. MusicThe Requiem of Dvořák - Collegium Vocale Gent & Antwerp Symphony OrchestraThe ultimate comfort music by the ultimate choir and orchestra
The moving ‘Requiem’ by Dvořák goes straight to the heart. A subtle leitmotif reminds of the omnipresence of death, superficial gestures are hard to find. A courageous sadness that never becomes somber or tragic: that is what this requiem radiates. Completely unjustly, Dvořák’s greatest choral work is a fairly unknown pearl.
