When aristocratic Blanche DuBois loses everything, she seeks refuge with her sister Stella in a poor working-class neighborhood. But her dream world clashes mercilessly with the raw reality of Stella's husband, Stanley Kowalski, an immigrant.
What follows is a sultry, explosive struggle between two faces of America: the melancholic beauty of faded glory versus the merciless drive of 'the American Dream'. As the temperature and tensions rise, everyone gets entangled in a web of desire, power, and despair. MusicDonkeyshot GangstershitIf I die today, know that I lived on the edge of the world.
That I crawled out of the shit and went sky high,
that I didn't live to be small.
That I was a wolf in dark times
because there are wolves everywhere.
Because if you want to achieve something, you have to be able to bite.
Everyone has a role to play in life
I play the role of a wolf. Why?
Look at the world. There are wolves running around everywhere.
I walk on the street, I scan the space,
I check who I am going to bite and who I have to be silent against.
Because honestly, in the end, it's eat or be eaten.
‘Donkeyshot Gangstershit’ is about the intoxication of the big life.
If you are a rock, then you cannot break! But the question is, if you are stuck in the hard reality, can you still breathe freely? Because men might not be allowed to cry, but wolves are!Sun 1 Nov · 20:00Arsenaal Site · GhentUntil 13 Novfrom €8

MusicMarcelleMarcelle is the musical project of the Ghent singer-songwriter and producer Marte Truyers. The name is a tribute to Marcel, her deceased rooster, and to all uncles with beer bellies. A quirky combination that immediately makes it clear that she does not follow beaten paths.
What started with personal songs on guitar grew into a band project in which narrative songs, multi-part vocals, and an organic sound come together. Met Tom Peeters on drums, Zjef Van Steenbergen on double bass, and Werend Van den Bossche on saxophone, Marcelle moves between singer-songwriter, jazzy Americana, and alternative folk.
Somewhere between the individuality of Feist, the frankness of Adrianne Lenker, and the raw work of PJ Harvey, Marcelle seeks her own path. Her songs are sometimes small and subdued, sometimes playful and headstrong, but always start from a personal perspective. No grand gestures, but music with character, room for detail, and an eye for what usually falls between the lines.
In 2025, Marcelle was selected for Sound Track and played at, among others, Boomtown and Luisterplein during the Gentse Feesten. Marte is currently working on her first EP and, with her band, is continuing to build a live sound in which the songs get all the space they need.

MusicDuo “Alors ? … Voilà !” Plays Django Book and moreALORS ? … VOILÀ !
plays Django and more 🎻🪗
⠀
Ann Vancoillie & Leander Vertriest
A new duo is born.
⠀
⠀
ALORS ? … VOILÀ ! — plays Django and more
⠀
⠀
In 2025 realiseerde hij het multidisciplinaire project The Light and His Intergalactic Stars, waarin compositie, improvisatie, theater en performance samenkwamen.
⠀
⠀
In Alors ? … Voilà ! ontmoeten viool en accordeon elkaar vanuit twee brede muzikale achtergronden, met Django Reinhardt als vertrekpunt en alle ruimte om van daaruit verder te gaan.

Ann Vancoillie & Leander Vertriest⠀
A new duo is born.
⠀
Last summer, accordionist Leander Vertriest and violinist Ann Vancoillie happened to improvise together for the first time. The musical connection was immediate.
⠀
A few months later, they decided to explore the repertoire of Django Reinhardt and jazz manouche more deeply — music in which swing, virtuosity and improvisation play a central role.
⠀
It suited them remarkably well. Their rehearsals soon moved beyond Django too, leading to free improvisations and even a brief excursion into Giant Steps.
⠀
And when something feels this natural musically, it deserves to be continued.
⠀
The name also comes from the world of jazz manouche.
⠀
“Alors ? … Voilà !” is a composition by the renowned French gypsy-jazz guitarist Romane — the stage name of Patrick Leguidecoq. The piece was also recorded by Tchavolo Schmitt on his 2000 album of the same name, Alors ? … Voilà !
⠀
When we came across the title in our Django and gypsy-jazz repertoire, we immediately thought it was irresistible as a name for the duo: playful, slightly unconventional, unmistakably French and perfectly suited to our musical world.
⠀
So we happily borrowed the title for ourselves. 😉
⠀
ALORS ? … VOILÀ ! — plays Django and more
⠀
Django Reinhardt is the starting point, but not necessarily the final destination. The repertoire moves from well-known Django compositions and jazz manouche to original arrangements, improvisation and the occasional unexpected musical detour.
⠀
LEANDER VERTRIEST — ACCORDION
⠀
Ghent-based accordionist Leander Vertriest moves through a broad musical world in which jazz, jazz manouche, musette, folk, chanson, contemporary music and improvisation meet.
⠀
He holds a Master of Arts in Accordion and further developed his jazz accordion playing at KASK & Conservatorium Ghent, among others with Tuur Florizoone.
⠀
He is currently pursuing a ManaMa in Contemporary Classical Music, further broadening his musical language and exploring connections between classical and contemporary repertoire, improvisation and new musical forms.
⠀
In 2025, he created the multidisciplinary project The Light and His Intergalactic Stars, bringing together composition, improvisation, theatre and performance.
⠀
Leander is active in a variety of ensembles and projects. He previously performed with Duo Vertriest–Baculalay, combining jazz, gypsy, musette and folk influences.
⠀
His broad musical background, rhythmic drive and instinct for improvisation give the duo much of its distinctive character.
⠀
ANN VANCOILLIE — VIOLIN
⠀
Ann Vancoillie is a classical and jazz violinist, improviser and teacher.
⠀
She is First Violin, Second Soloist at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen and combines a long professional career in opera, orchestral and chamber music with her work as a jazz violinist, soloist and improviser.
⠀
She holds a Master of Performing Arts & Pedagogy in violin and chamber music and, in 2024, while continuing her full-time orchestral career, completed a Bachelor in Jazz Violin at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles.
⠀
Alongside the classical repertoire, Ann also has extensive experience in contemporary music. She performed with Champ d’Action and took part in various creations and premieres of works by contemporary composers, including repertoire for solo violin, violin and harp, and violin and piano.
⠀
Alongside her work at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, Ann performs as a soloist and in a wide range of crossover projects. Her musical world spans classical and contemporary music, jazz, gypsy jazz, Brazilian choro, Cuban music and free improvisation.
⠀
Harmony, rhythm and improvisation are central to both her playing and her teaching, with her classical, contemporary and jazz backgrounds constantly informing one another.

MusicAn Miller, Koen Vanmechelen & Dimitri Leue - Ode to WonderOn the occasion of her curatorship of Theater aan Zee in 2021, Caroline Pauwels wrote a beautiful ode to wonder. A plea to open your senses and let your ideas evolve. Children are often full of wonder. Why is the sea blue? Why does it get dark? Why is that man bald? Somewhere on the way to adulthood, most of us lose that open-mindedness. Gradually, the fire of curiosity is extinguished: things are just what they are, there is nothing new under the sun. And that is a pity. Wonder gives life color, helps to push our boundaries, and encourages us to question false certainties. In her book 'Ode to Wonder', Caroline Pauwels makes a passionate plea to look at the world with that childlike gaze again. In science and art, but also in the big and small moments of every day. This 'Ode to Wonder' is just as much an ode to the late rector of the VUB, Caroline Pauwels. With texts by Caroline and music she loved. The rector was a public figure with a love for the arts. She was, among other things, curator for Theater Aan Zee. For the VRT, she made the series 'The insights of Caroline Pauwels' and the VRT also made the 'Vier Seizoenen van Caroline Pauwels'. An Miller crawls into the skin of Caroline Pauwels. Although she has mainly worked for television and film in recent years, An has rediscovered her love for the stage with the remarkable play 'Familie' by Milo Rau/NTGent.Fri 6 Nov · 19:30–20:40Kunstencentrum VIERNULVIER · Ghentfrom €29
MusicSlow CrushFrom Van Canada to Colombia, shoegazers fall head over heels for Slow Crush, one of the most successful guitar bands from the Lage Landen. The Deze Vlaams-British formation tours incessantly all over the world, making Belgian club shows rare. Their appearance on Friday, November 06, in Club Wintercircus is therefore an exclusive opportunity to experience them live.
After four years of touring and experimenting in the studio, the band presents their latest album Thirst (Pure Noise Records). Together with producer Lewis Johns (Rolo Tomassi, Svalbard), they pushed the boundaries: the result is scorching shoegaze with a raw edge. Think of dreamy vocals, gritty guitars, glitchy textures, and here and there an unexpected saxophone. Frontvrouw Isa Holliday digs deeper than ever in her lyrics and balances between emotional intensity and subdued beauty.

MusicRise And Fall - 20 Years of Into Oblivion + 4 bandsRise And Fall returns to the stage for the first time since 2012. On November 7, they will play in their hometown of Ghent in the iconic De Vooruit, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Into Oblivion. The set will reflect that milestone, with the album central, alongside material from the rest of their catalog.
For more than ten years, Rise And Fall has built a reputation as one of Europe's most uncompromising hardcore bands. Thoughtful, intense, and unmistakably their own. The band was founded in the early 2000s in Ghent and built its name by constantly touring and regularly releasing new releases: four albums and four EPs, largely released by Deathwish Inc., the label founded by J. Bannon van Converge.
At the end of 2012, the band stopped performing live. There was no official breakup, no farewell concert, no drama. Just a break that ultimately lasted much longer than expected.
Fourteen years later, Rise And Fall returns to the stage for the first time. In the intervening years, the band members never stopped creating and remained active in bands such as Wiegedood, Oathbreaker, Raw Peace, Wrong Man, Force, Crouch, Blind To Faith, and Living Gate.
Rise And Fall never officially stopped; they just went quiet. On November 7, that silence will come to an end.
Support acts will be announced later.Sat 7 Nov · 18:00–23:10Kunstencentrum VIERNULVIER · Ghentfrom €25
MusicDvořák 8 - Alexandra Soumm & Symfonieorkest VlaanderenWith much bravado, violinist Alexandra Soumm links the zest for life of Mozart and Dvořák to the subtlety of Vaughan Williams
Met Allerheiligen and Armistice is November the month to remember what was and to commemorate what should never have happened. Vaughan Williams, marked by the horrors of the Eerste Wereldoorlog, remembers better times with melancholy. In his music, he seeks a way out of the madness of war through stillness, tenderness, and poetry, in a typically English pastoral sound world. Mozart and Dvořák, on the other hand, burst with zest for life and happy memories of home. Mozart in the Viennese way, Dvořák with a warm wink to his Bohemian roots.Sat 7 Nov · 20:00–22:00Muziekcentrum De Bijloke Gent · Ghentfrom €10

The idiosyncratic guitar idiom of the influential Marc Ribot is joined by the radical, intuitive electric bass lines of the increasingly acclaimed Brussels-based Farida Amadou, and the layered, adventurous drumming of Ches Smith. Starting from open structures, they build intense soundscapes in which texture, rhythm and silence constantly reshape one another. Individual signatures remain audible, but are deployed in the service of collective exploration and immediate interaction. MusicJamie Woon SoloJamie Woon grew up in London as the son of Celtic singer Mae McKenna, studied at the BRIT School (a year after Amy Winehouse), and broke through in 2010 with Night Air, a single co-produced by Burial that brought together post-dubstep and intimate R&B in a way that no one expected. The debut album Mirrorwriting (2011) followed, finished high in the BBC Sound of 2011 poll, and established his name as one of the most idiosyncratic voices in the British soul scene. Then it became quiet. Four years.
Making Time appeared in 2015, was nominated for the Mercury Prize, and then Woon disappeared again. He worked behind the scenes (with Elmiene, Lil Silva, Holly Walker) but his own music was a long time coming. 3, 10, Why, When (2025) is the album that almost wasn't. Co-produced with Martin Terefe and released on his own label Also Can, it is his most vulnerable work to date. Sharp percussion that transitions into strings. 3 AM thoughts next to deep peace. R&B, electronica, and pop that touch each other without falling into a box.Tue 3 Nov · 19:30Club Wintercircus · Ghentfrom €30

MusicBenjamin Verdonck / Theater Artemis & Wiener Festwochen - All before Death is LifeAn entertaining evening full of hocus pocus!
A magician with nothing in his hands and (almost) nothing up his sleeves. He fiddles with butter, fools around with photos from newspapers and with a banana and an orange. In the end, he even changes color! This is a performance in which everything goes wrong, about a world stage on which much goes wrong, but where you don't walk away from: you keep searching, singing, feeling, doing somersaults, and falling hard, because all before death is life. A playful and disruptive solo by Benjamin Verdonck, directed by Jetse Batelaan.

MusicNOISE ROOM: Yasuaki Shimizu / Catharina Evens - Support: GAMETwo adventurous musical worlds come together during this RUISKAMER. De Japanse saxophonist Yasuaki Shimizu, living legend and cult figure behind the albums ‘Kakashi’ and ‘Utakata No Hibi’, shares the evening with the Brussels pianist and electronics wizard Catharina Evens. Expect an intimate, curious, and layered sound trip in which sax, piano, electronics, and improvisation challenge and embrace each other.
De Japanse saxophonist, composer, and producer Yasuaki Shimizu has been active in the music world for almost fifty years. His work moves effortlessly between pop, jazz, minimalism, soundtracks, and pure experiments. He worked with, among others, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Björk, and Van Dyke Parks. Cult albums ‘Kakashi’ and ‘Utakata No Hibi’, masterful crossings of Japanese folk and pop elements, have found a new audience in recent years thanks to reissues on Palto Flats. Due to the refined electronic/disco production style, they sound just as fresh as in the early 80s.
After a completely sold-out first North American tour ever in 2025, he is now in our RUISKAMER for the first time, a unique chance to hear and see a living legend up close.
Catharina Evens (1997°, Brussels) is a Belgian experimental electro-acoustic pianist who searches for an alternative sound palette for the acoustic piano. She does this, among other things, by manipulating acoustic sounds live via electronics and amplifying them and letting them resonate through the entire sound box and strings of the piano. The typical piano sound, which we usually associate with the acoustic piano, fades and thus makes way for an idiosyncratic sound universe of which she further explores the various musical possibilities via improvisation and composition.
Using granular textures, playful capriciousness, compelling pianistic passages, naive phrases, percussive accents, piano preparations, rhythmic sequences, and exploring the playing space between different music genres, Catharina thus creates her own absurd sound world full of narrative fragments.
An evening on which two totally different but equally curious musical minds meet. Shimizu’s warm, elastic sax lines and his sense of melodic abstraction find a surprising dialogue with Evens’ hybrid piano world full of resonance, electronics, and improvisation. RUISKAMER as it is intended: close, adventurous, and full of room for discovery.Wed 4 Nov · 19:30–22:30Kunstencentrum VIERNULVIER · Ghentfrom €10
MusicIskander MoonIskander Moon is eager to share his first full-fledged album, Salt Moon City (out on February 20), with us. The album feels like a fictional city where every house tells its own story and where small things are allowed to be big. A place where you discover at your own pace who you are and who you want to be — a city you want to return to time and time again.
On November 5, he brings those new songs to life in Club Wintercircus. After his impressive EP Are You Lost Here? last year, which immediately put him on the map as one of the most authentic musicians of his generation, followed a large dose of airplay, a series of sold-out shows and appreciated festival performances, including at Live /s Live and Dranouter. Now he is ready for the next step, one for which Iskander has already tied his laces tight.

MusicMasters of Labyrinth 26There is a moment in the festival when everything comes together.
Not as a climax that rises above the rest, but as a special encounter in which experience, tradition and imagination find each other.
De Masters of Labyrinth first share the stage in an open musical dialogue: an interweaving of styles, sounds and traditions, each with its own history and meaning. What emerges is not a demonstration of virtuosity, but an exercise in listening — to each other, to the hall and to what presents itself at that moment.
From there, the perspective shifts. A few students are invited on stage, not as students in the shadow of their masters, but as full-fledged musical voices. Generations meet, boundaries between experience and renewal blur, and music unfolds as a shared space of transmission, inspiration and creation.

MusicFloris Francis Arthur band - Third album release showFloris Francis Arthur
Het solo project of Floris De Decker (frontman of Team William, musician with The Van Jets and Intergalactic Lovers), live assisted by a rock-solid band with members from, among others, Jan Verstraeten, Vito, Pascal Deweze, and Noémie Wolfs. FFA balances somewhere between darkness and euphoria with a quirky blend of lo-fi indie folk, country, and 90s indie rock. What started as intimate bedroom folk on debut album There Never Is And Never Was A Masterplan, grew on second record Little Did I Know into a layered and powerful band sound that effortlessly made year-end lists. In 2026, FFA takes a new path with a Dutch-language third album, in which his cinematic sound blossoms even further — think: Gorki meets Ennio Morricone. With the first Dutch-language single Hou Me Tegen, meanwhile played to death on Radio 1, FFA already gave a telling preview of what is to come. Expect melancholy, intensity, and songs that continue to resonate.Wed 4 Nov · 20:30–23:00Charlatan · Ghentfrom €15

MusicOxalys Ensemble - Belgian Music DaysIn the relentless search for (Belgian) unknown chamber music repertoire that has characterized Oxalys for so many years, about fifteen years ago we came across the small, but magnificent oeuvre of the Liège composer Georges Antoine. Born in 1892 and passed away far too young on November 15, 1918, four days after the armistice. His long stay in the trenches had completely exhausted him due to his already weak health. Not only his early passing, but also his style of composition immediately remind one of that other Franco-Belgian composer: Guillaume Lekeu. A violin sonata and a piano quartet both form the peak in their respective chamber music oeuvres.
A student of Lekeu, who also passed away before his fortieth year, is the composer Albrecht Huybrechts, born in Dinant. He was admitted to the Brussels Conservatory at the age of 11 and left us an once again limited, but magnificent oeuvre. In 1926, after receiving the prestigious Coolidge Prize for his violin sonata, which was premiered in New York with the top French pianist Alfred Cortot at the keyboard, he wrote a trio for the slightly less common instrumentation: flute, viola & piano. Huybrechts’ style sits somewhere between Debussy & Ravel and the modernism of Stravinsky and Bartók. In the second movement, you hear the French refinement of timbre and harmony on the one hand, while the outer movements have a more angular, rhythmic, and earthy approach.
During its existence, Oxalys has also given quite a few composition commissions to Belgian composers. The Antwerp composer Bram Van Camp could not be missing from that list. Voor Oxalys wrote Van Camp in 2017 Mozart’s dissonance; a work that had to take center stage in a Mozart program. Van Camp tries to investigate what happens when you detach Mozartian dissonances from their tonal function.
In In Mozarts music, dissonances often arise as non-harmonic tones within a melodic ornamentation. They create tension, but are subsequently absorbed into a consonant chord. Van Camp takes precisely those dissonant harmonies and says as it were: what if we do not resolve that dissonance? He identified about 15 four-note chords that literally occur in Mozart's music, including their inversions. He then places them in a non-tonal context. As a result, their function changes completely: what is a temporary tension in Mozart becomes an independent sound element in Van Camp. Van Camp not only dissects the harmony, but also the phrasing of Mozart. He notes that Mozart's phrasing often appears very natural and symmetrical, but upon closer inspection can be surprisingly asymmetrical. That asymmetry becomes a starting point for the rhythmic structure of Mozart’s dissonance in Van Camp.Mon 9 Nov · 17:00–18:00Muziekcentrum De Bijloke Gent · Ghentfrom €10

MusicBIMDEK - Matthysen, Mosuse and Van BallaertWhat does Bimdek mean? Googling doesn't help us any further. The most accurate description is: Bimdek is a word from a language that consists of only one word, namely the word Bimdek. You can translate it as 'Theatertour van Matthysen, Mosuse and Van Ballaert'.
What can we expect? There will be deep digging again into the rich repertoire of Hugo, of course there are also new songs in it and certainly also a song in the language from which the word Bimdek originates.
In between, the necessary meaningful nonsense will be told, so that the deep emotion can occasionally give way to cheerful bewilderment, thereby immediately pampering the mental balance of the audience. About the creators: Aram Van Ballaert and Ronny Mosuse are two musical top talents. And also Hugo Matthysen is doing his strung best.Tue 10 Nov · 19:30–21:00Kunstencentrum VIERNULVIER · Ghentfrom €35

MusicMomoko Gill - support tbcMomoko Gill comes to present her acclaimed debut 'Momoko' in the Balzaal van De Vooruit
Momoko Gill has long been one of the best-kept secrets of the British electronic and jazz scene. As a self-taught drummer, producer, songwriter, and singer, she has left her unique mark on collaborations with Alabaster DePlume, Matthew Herbert, Coby Sey, Tirzah, and Nadeem Din-Gabisi (her musical counterpart in An Alien Called Harmony). By touring extensively behind the drum kit, keyboards, and microphone, she has sharpened her instinct for composition and production.
The debut album 'Momoko' sounds extraordinarily mature for a first record. Throughout, the stylistic influences of jazz musicians as well as singer-songwriters, experimental artists, and electronic producers can be heard, but Gill rejects imitation and shapes her unique sound based on feeling and expression rather than tradition. Gill lives in London and grew up in Japan and the US. She incorporates her broad perspective into her musical ideas and stories, with a unique voice she has developed from her instinct, collaborations, and self-study.
The eleven tracks on the album represent a broad spectrum: the jazz-infused groove of 'No Others' and the harmony-infused, reflective 'Heavy' stand in contrast to the dark, confrontational sound of 'Shadowboxing', which transitions into an eerie, unconventional instrumental beat, 'Test A Small Area', and the impressive 50-piece choir on 'When Palestine Is Free' (featuring greats such as Shabaka Hutchings, Soweto Kinch, Alabaster DePlume, Coby Sey, Marysia Osu, and others). It is a highly personal and poetic recording that showcases the full, uncompromising range of Momoko's vision, presented in her own voice.Fri 13 Nov · 19:30–22:45Kunstencentrum VIERNULVIER · GhentFree
