Echoes of Ukraine

During Echo’s van Oekraïne we bring together artists from Ukraine, Belgium, Venezuela, Colombia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus for a special concert afternoon. Get acquainted with the richness of Ukrainian classical music, surprising contemporary interpretations, and a lot of Ghent cultural diversity. An internationally composed ensemble \"United by Bridges Orchestra\" presents Ukrainian melodies in a chamber music format. Besides a classical program, Anastasii Kenner, Pal Szomora, and Dirk Brossé present original new work and contemporary arrangements. During this concert afternoon we pay special attention to the bandura, a traditional Ukrainian plucked string instrument that combines characteristics of both the lute and the zither. During Echo’s van Oekraïne Anna and Svitlana Sonyk bring a series of unique solos and duets in which this special instrument takes center stage. On Sunday morning they will also provide a special Diwan Sessie masterclass within our Music Workshops. After the concert you can still enjoy various sweet and savory treats from Ukrainian cuisine.
