MiscCity DesignersDesign can be found not only in a museum, but also right on the street. From the benches in the park to the garbage cans on the square: everything around us has been thought up by someone, and the layout of the city determines how we move around, where we meet up and whether we feel at home somewhere. During this walk, students learn to read the language of the city. With the eyes of a designer, they explore the streets of Ghent, discover what choices a designer makes and what skills are required for that. They learn to look, think and sketch like a designer. As a closing activity, they get to work themselves with a design assignment in which the architecture of the city serves as inspiration.Sun 1 NovDesign Museum Gent · GhentUntil 30 Jun 2027Free
MiscLittle SunFeeling, building, playing: in Design Museum Gent it is all allowed. Together with Little Sun, the toddlers go on a journey of discovery through the museum. Along the way they encounter special objects and experience crazy adventures: Little Sun visits the city, swims with the fishes, flies high through the air, learns all about knots and eventually sleeps in a warm nest. With design objects as a starting point, the children feel, move and fantasize themselves. Thus the visit becomes a playful discovery full of stimuli that you can build further on in the classroom. The themes connect to the artistic domains.Sun 1 NovDesign Museum Gent · GhentUntil 30 Jun 2027Free
MiscWalk & TalkStep out of the classroom and dive into the streets of Ghent. During this interactive city walk, students discover that design is much more than just a pretty object. They are introduced to designers who do not accept the world as it is, but tackle it actively, and look at how design responds to today's social challenges. The guide challenges the class to look critically at the environment and surprises them along the way with mysterious objects that spark dialogue. Concrete examples concerning urban mining, fair fashion, inclusion and reuse are discussed. The walk was developed together with students of Kunsthumaniora Sint-Lucas Gent: a tour by young people, for young people.Sun 1 NovDesign Museum Gent · GhentUntil 30 Jun 2027Free

MiscWalk in the Vinderhoutse BossenWhen the leaves fall, trees seem to lose their most important identifying characteristic. But appearances are deceiving! During this autumn walk in the Vinderhoutse Bossen you will discover how to tell trees apart even in winter. We look at buds, bark, fruits and other, sometimes more subtle, characteristics. While nature comes to rest and the landscape wraps itself in soft autumn colors, we learn to look attentively at what remains. Stoelen en Banken is not a band, it is an interior construction in ruins. We make music that sounds like a hardware store exploding in slow motion: heavy, messy, and yet with precision in every splinter. Do not expect neat lines or smooth surfaces. We screw metal to sludge, hammer grunge tight with rusty jazz, and seal everything shut with a thick layer of doomgaze. Sometimes slow like a cabinet falling over, sometimes fierce like a runaway screwdriver in your face. VI.BESun 1 Nov · 16:00Kinky Star · GhentFree
MusicMarcelleMarcelle is the musical project of the Ghent singer-songwriter and producer Marte Truyers. The name is a tribute to Marcel, her deceased rooster, and to all uncles with beer bellies. A quirky combination that immediately makes it clear that she does not follow beaten paths.
What started with personal songs on guitar grew into a band project in which narrative songs, multi-part vocals, and an organic sound come together. Met Tom Peeters on drums, Zjef Van Steenbergen on double bass, and Werend Van den Bossche on saxophone, Marcelle moves between singer-songwriter, jazzy Americana, and alternative folk.
Somewhere between the individuality of Feist, the frankness of Adrianne Lenker, and the raw work of PJ Harvey, Marcelle seeks her own path. Her songs are sometimes small and subdued, sometimes playful and headstrong, but always start from a personal perspective. No grand gestures, but music with character, room for detail, and an eye for what usually falls between the lines.
In 2025, Marcelle was selected for Sound Track and played at, among others, Boomtown and Luisterplein during the Gentse Feesten. Marte is currently working on her first EP and, with her band, is continuing to build a live sound in which the songs get all the space they need.

MusicDuo “Alors ? … Voilà !” Plays Django Book and moreALORS ? … VOILÀ !
plays Django and more 🎻🪗
⠀
Ann Vancoillie & Leander Vertriest
A new duo is born.
⠀
⠀
ALORS ? … VOILÀ ! — plays Django and more
⠀
⠀
In 2025 realiseerde hij het multidisciplinaire project The Light and His Intergalactic Stars, waarin compositie, improvisatie, theater en performance samenkwamen.
⠀
⠀
In Alors ? …
⠀
More to follow… 🎻🪗

Ann Vancoillie & Leander Vertriest⠀
A new duo is born.
⠀
Last summer, accordionist Leander Vertriest and violinist Ann Vancoillie happened to improvise together for the first time. The musical connection was immediate.
⠀
A few months later, they decided to explore the repertoire of Django Reinhardt and jazz manouche more deeply — music in which swing, virtuosity and improvisation play a central role.
⠀
It suited them remarkably well. Their rehearsals soon moved beyond Django too, leading to free improvisations and even a brief excursion into Giant Steps.
⠀
And when something feels this natural musically, it deserves to be continued.
⠀
The name also comes from the world of jazz manouche.
⠀
“Alors ? … Voilà !” is a composition by the renowned French gypsy-jazz guitarist Romane — the stage name of Patrick Leguidecoq. The piece was also recorded by Tchavolo Schmitt on his 2000 album of the same name, Alors ? … Voilà !
⠀
When we came across the title in our Django and gypsy-jazz repertoire, we immediately thought it was irresistible as a name for the duo: playful, slightly unconventional, unmistakably French and perfectly suited to our musical world.
⠀
So we happily borrowed the title for ourselves. 😉
⠀
ALORS ? … VOILÀ ! — plays Django and more
⠀
Django Reinhardt is the starting point, but not necessarily the final destination. The repertoire moves from well-known Django compositions and jazz manouche to original arrangements, improvisation and the occasional unexpected musical detour.
⠀
LEANDER VERTRIEST — ACCORDION
⠀
Ghent-based accordionist Leander Vertriest moves through a broad musical world in which jazz, jazz manouche, musette, folk, chanson, contemporary music and improvisation meet.
⠀
He holds a Master of Arts in Accordion and further developed his jazz accordion playing at KASK & Conservatorium Ghent, among others with Tuur Florizoone.
⠀
He is currently pursuing a ManaMa in Contemporary Classical Music, further broadening his musical language and exploring connections between classical and contemporary repertoire, improvisation and new musical forms.
⠀
In 2025, he created the multidisciplinary project The Light and His Intergalactic Stars, bringing together composition, improvisation, theatre and performance.
⠀
Leander is active in a variety of ensembles and projects. He previously performed with Duo Vertriest–Baculalay, combining jazz, gypsy, musette and folk influences.
⠀
His broad musical background, rhythmic drive and instinct for improvisation give the duo much of its distinctive character.
⠀
ANN VANCOILLIE — VIOLIN
⠀
Ann Vancoillie is a classical and jazz violinist, improviser and teacher.
⠀
She is First Violin, Second Soloist at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen and combines a long professional career in opera, orchestral and chamber music with her work as a jazz violinist, soloist and improviser.
⠀
She holds a Master of Performing Arts & Pedagogy in violin and chamber music and, in 2024, while continuing her full-time orchestral career, completed a Bachelor in Jazz Violin at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles.
⠀
Alongside the classical repertoire, Ann also has extensive experience in contemporary music. She performed with Champ d’Action and took part in various creations and premieres of works by contemporary composers, including repertoire for solo violin, violin and harp, and violin and piano.
⠀
Alongside her work at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, Ann performs as a soloist and in a wide range of crossover projects. Her musical world spans classical and contemporary music, jazz, gypsy jazz, Brazilian choro, Cuban music and free improvisation.
⠀
Harmony, rhythm and improvisation are central to both her playing and her teaching, with her classical, contemporary and jazz backgrounds constantly informing one another.
⠀
In Alors ? … Voilà !, violin and accordion meet through two wide-ranging musical backgrounds, with Django Reinhardt as aSun 1 Nov · 21:00–22:30Bar Lume · GhentFree

Many of our songs were born out of frustration and anger about prevailing issues : climate change, economical crisis, unchecked mental health issues and the fact that no one asks us what our favourite dinosaur is.
Slowly but surely spreading our message across Belgium (and France), being a 2025 laureate of Court-Circuit and playing alot around Brussels (Magasin 4, VOLTA, Botanique, Micro Festival...). Currently working on our first EP to spread our construction even further... Soundcloud

MusicBelgian Music DaysBelgian Music Days, that means a lot of homegrown music, with a special focus on work by living composers. Het Brusselse Ensemble Fractales changes its appearance four times thanks to pieces by Daan Janssens, Eliott Delafosse, Stefan Prins, and Pierre Slinckx. Manuel Hermia (saxophone/composition) worked for a long time on his Rajazz theory (a combination of Indian ragas with jazz) and passionately explains that theory. With his Rajazzic tribe, he puts it into practice just as passionately. Pianist Brecht Valckenaers, on the other hand, focuses entirely on contemporary piano music of Belgian make, including a creation by Pieter Schuermans and his own work. Students of the Koninklijke Conservatoria van Gent, Antwerp, and Brussels dove into the archives and fished out a few heritage gems from among the 2 million scores.

MusicARIFA ft. Avin AhmadiARIFA was founded in Amsterdam in 2010 by Turkish-Dutch percussionist Sjahin During. Inspired by the musical traditions of the Silk Road, the ensemble weaves musical traditions from Anatolia, the Zwarte Zeegebied, Persia, and India into its own sound world.
In their music, traditional songs, rhythms, and melodies enter into a dialogue with contemporary arrangements, acoustic instruments, electronics, and improvisation. This creates a sound world in which musical influences from East and West meet and develop further.
Over the years, ARIFA has released seven albums and performed in more than thirty countries spread across five continents. The ensemble has been a guest at renowned venues and festivals, including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, North Sea Jazz, Southbank Centre in London, the Kennedy Center in Washington, WOMEX, and Jazzahead.
Encounters with musicians from diverse traditions continually lead to new musical exchanges, perspectives, and stories. ARIFA's performances build on existing traditions while remaining open to innovation.
For this Silk Road Dialogues, Iranian singer and oud player Avin Ahmadi joins the quartet. With her expressive voice and strong grounding in the Persian musical tradition, she adds an extra dimension to ARIFA's musical exploration of the Silk Road.

19:30 – The doors open, welcome for a drink!
20:00 – Hamdam: “the person who breathes the same air”
Monthly, the Hamdam group rolls out the carpets to take everyone along together in a circle formation on a musical journey that is not planned in advance. Background, level, origin, or age do not play a role here. Making music, listening, or watching are of equal value.
‘Hamdam’ is a Persian word that literally means ‘the person who breathes the same air’. In de Perzische culture, it refers to a good friend or confidant. Someone with whom you can freely share your emotions and thoughts, without being afraid of a judgment. It is a safe place where everyone is welcome, and where deep bonds and mutual understanding are central. In de Hamdam sessions, this principle is converted into a multidisciplinary jam session, an invitation to share sounds, melodies, and compositions together. The path that is taken is more important than the outcome, the connection is the goal.
Grab your instrument, let your voice be heard, dance, move, draw, and tell your story during Hamdam!

PROVERBS presents four minimalist masterpieces from the 20th century, chosen for their introspective quality. Tehillim (1981), Steve Reich’s definitive masterpiece, forms the centrepiece of the evening.
At the other end of the spectrum, Gavin Bryars’ The Sinking of the Titanic (1972) gives a different meaning to the word ‘minimalism’.
This concert is conceived as a poetic and quasi-narrative experience. Carefully lit, amplified and mixed in quadraphonic sound. It begins with the ‘instrumental theatre’ of Charles Ives’ The Unanswered Question (1908) and features, as an interlude, Steve Reich’s Proverb from 1995 — a gem of simplicity and unerring expression.

MusicTeam Apollo || Luminous FestTeam Apollo brings a captivating mix of indie rock and post-punk, with sturdy guitar riffs, atmospheric sounds and vocals that exude both emotion and attitude. Think of the expansive sound of The War on Drugs, the dark energy of The Chameleons and the melancholy of Echo & The Bunnymen, but with its own contemporary twist.
Two members of Team Apollo bring the band's songs down to their essence for this concert in Café de Loge. Expect an intimate, atmospheric set with recognizable sounds, raw emotions and a surprisingly different side of the band.

MusicStavroz Ambient Live Show with Ksawery KomputerySTAVROZ - Ambient Live Show With Ksawery KomputeryStavroz brings an exclusive Ambient Live show to Wintercircus, specifically conceived for this stage in collaboration with Ksawery Komputery. Far removed from the band's usual dancefloor-oriented shows, this one is made for the couch: beatless, spacious and unhurried. Familiar pieces dissolve into new arrangements, drifting between ambient electronics, live instrumentation and improvisation. An hour of music that breathes, built around peaks and valleys that rise and fall. Keys, bass guitar, guitar, saxophone, trumpet and modular synthesiser trade places throughout the set, sometimes just one instrument carrying the room, sometimes four at once, always in conversation. The modular synth holds a steady atmospheric undercurrent while the rest of the band steps forward and back. The backdrop for the night is set by Ksawery Komputery, the creative technology studio behind HOLOTRIGGER. Their visual installation transforms Wintercircus from the moment doors open, and keeps running after the concert as an atmospheric closing loop. An hour before the show, biøs (sound artist and sound designer from the Ksawery Komputery studio) takes over the Arena with an ambient layer of his own. Music lover, dreamer, or just in the mood for an evening with nowhere to rush to? This one's built to disappear into. STAVROZHailing from the land of compromise in the heart of Europe, the four friends of Stavroz found each other in the east of Flanders. In its inception, IJsbrand De Wilde & Gert Beazar focussed mainly on playing DJ sets and creating music in which they loved colliding worlds. Only a few years later they hooked up with Maxim Helincks & Pieter De Meester to expand their DJ activities to a performing band and continued to try and find an unbeaten path in electronic music. This culminated in their delicately acoustic, organic and cinematic approach to electronic music, earning them second place for “best producer” and “best breakthrough artist” in national awards for Belgium’s electronic scene. Their EP “The Ginning” resulted in an early breakthrough, reaching gold status in France, dominating the nr. 1 spot on the Hype Machine, and chosen as vinyl of the month by Germany's “Faze Magazine” — mainly thanks to the B-side “The Finishing”, starring a compelling solo on the tenor saxophone. To keep freedom in their music production, they started their own record label, Moodfamily, on which their second hit single “Gold Town” was released. It held the nr. 1 spot on Beatport’s “Electronic Top 100” for months and was picked up by Rockstar Entertainment for GTA V's in-game music. Now 11 years in, many of Stavroz’s songs are still relevant, quietly nudging towards timelessness — over half a million monthly Spotify listeners, over 100,000 followers, and 100 million plays across major streaming platforms. Their live performances have taken them to Coachella, Fusion Festival, Wonderfruit, Pukkelpop, Strawberry Fields, Tropico and Three Points Festival, and their acclaimed Cercle session at Fort Saint-Eynard, France, remains one of the purest translations of their sound to picture. BIØSJakub Mokrzysiak (biøs) is a music producer and sound engineer rooted in Poland’s Silesian region. For over fifteen years, he has worked at the intersection of electronic music, sound art and new media, moving beyond genre boundaries across ambient music, experimental electronics and spatial composition. An active contributor to southern Poland’s music scene, he is co-curator and sound director at the new media laboratory Tonarium, and artistic director of the Soundscape Foundation. He has collaborated and performed live with the AUKSO orchestra, and received a Gold Record for co-producing and mixing Bass Astral x Igo's album Orell. His performances include appearances at leading Polish electronic music festivals such as Unsound, Audioriver and Up To Date. Multichannel sound installations and immersive audiovisual works conceived for specific spaces form a central part of his practice, presented at venues including the Silesian Museum and ZIMMT in Leipzig. He also performs with Spektrum, an audiovisual project created with Kuba Stelmach, in which sound, image and space form a unified, immersive narrative. Ksawery KomputeryKsawery Komputery is a creative technology studio working at the intersection of digital art, generative systems, and immersive environments. Founded and led by new media artist Ksawery Kirklewski and run together with his brother Jakub Kirklewski the Poland-based studio develops interactive installations, audiovisual performances, generative animations, and phygital artworks using custom-built software and hardware. The studio specializes in large-scale multimedia environments driven by real-time systems and proprietary tools, managing the entire production process from concept to engineering, fabrication, and international deployment. Recent projects include stage installations for Childish Gambino, Erykah Badu, and Julian Casablancas, as well as FLUX (BLINK Festival, Miami Art Week, Noor Riyadh), ENTER (NXT Museum, Amsterdam; Khroma Museum, Berlin), and LOTUS (Paris Fashion Week). CinemaFILM: Eat More Trees (documentary)Every year, we lose 24 billion tons of fertile soil worldwide. That is thirty football fields per minute. If we keep farming the way we do today, we are literally pulling the rug out from under our food system.
Eat More Trees, narrated by actress Maaike Cafmeyer, shows how it can be done differently. During an inspiring journey from the Amazon rainforest to the fields of Europe and America, this documentary explores how agroforestry can regenerate our landscapes, restore biodiversity, and perhaps change forever how we produce food and even what we eat.
The screening will be preceded by an introduction by Arne Focketyn (director). After the film, there will also be time for a Q&A.
PLEASE NOTE: To reserve the space where the screening will take place, we ask you to confirm your attendance. You can do this by filling out the form provided under 'Tickets'. Thank you very much for doing this, which also guarantees you a seat during the screening.

MusicStar Trip: Unkle Kook (It)Unkle Kook Unkle Kook was formed in Bologna, Italy, in 2019. Drawing inspiration from surf music, the band's eclectic lineup creates a highly cinematic soundscape—rich in imagery, atmosphere, and emotion. Their music blends soundtrack-like textures with a rock'n'roll spirit that gets audiences dancing, coming fully alive in electrifying live performances, all while maintaining a distinctive sense of irony and playfulness. With reverb-soaked, desert-inspired guitars, a gritty saxophone, and a solid rhythm section, the band delivers an eclectic and immersive sound.
In 2021, Unkle Kook released their debut EP, Surf Beat, through the independent label Brutture Moderne. The six instrumental tracks immediately showcased the band's unconventional approach to the surf genre.Thu 12 Nov · 21:00Kinky Star · GhentFree
MusicMomoko Gill - support tbcMomoko Gill comes to present her acclaimed debut 'Momoko' in the Balzaal van De Vooruit
Momoko Gill has long been one of the best-kept secrets of the British electronic and jazz scene. As a self-taught drummer, producer, songwriter, and singer, she has left her unique mark on collaborations with Alabaster DePlume, Matthew Herbert, Coby Sey, Tirzah, and Nadeem Din-Gabisi (her musical counterpart in An Alien Called Harmony). By touring extensively behind the drum kit, keyboards, and microphone, she has sharpened her instinct for composition and production.
The debut album 'Momoko' sounds extraordinarily mature for a first record. Throughout, the stylistic influences of jazz musicians as well as singer-songwriters, experimental artists, and electronic producers can be heard, but Gill rejects imitation and shapes her unique sound based on feeling and expression rather than tradition. Gill lives in London and grew up in Japan and the US. She incorporates her broad perspective into her musical ideas and stories, with a unique voice she has developed from her instinct, collaborations, and self-study.
The eleven tracks on the album represent a broad spectrum: the jazz-infused groove of 'No Others' and the harmony-infused, reflective 'Heavy' stand in contrast to the dark, confrontational sound of 'Shadowboxing', which transitions into an eerie, unconventional instrumental beat, 'Test A Small Area', and the impressive 50-piece choir on 'When Palestine Is Free' (featuring greats such as Shabaka Hutchings, Soweto Kinch, Alabaster DePlume, Coby Sey, Marysia Osu, and others). It is a highly personal and poetic recording that showcases the full, uncompromising range of Momoko's vision, presented in her own voice.Fri 13 Nov · 19:30–22:45Kunstencentrum VIERNULVIER · GhentFree
