MusicChoir&Voice showcase moment in M LeuvenM and Koor&Stem are joining forces to bring art close to people with dementia. Together we developed a unique songbook, inspired by our collection. You can experience the result of this special project during this atmospheric presentation moment: residents of residential care centers bring the music and the museum rooms to life with an intimate concert among the works of art.
Prior to this presentation moment, the participating residential care centers received professional guidance from Koor&Stem to get started with the songs. Together with their supervisors, the residents dove into the repertoire and prepared themselves for their performance in M.
Currently, three residential care centers are singing along with great enthusiasm: De Wingerd (Leuven), Compostella (Antwerp), and Dominicus (Lubbeek).

MusicTim Burton’s Universe by La Chapelle SauvageWelcome to the fantastic worlds of Tim Burton! We invite you on a journey through the music that has made them unforgettable.
From the sparkling wonder of Alice in Wonderland to the festive magic of The Nightmare Before Christmas, and from the haunting lyricism of Edward Scissorhands to the eccentric brilliance of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: this concert immerses you in the sound worlds that have shaped Burton's unique cinematic universe.
At the heart of it is the music of Danny Elfman, Burton's longtime creative partner and one of the most distinctive film composers of our time. Elfman's music combines playfulness with menace and tenderness with grandeur, as a perfect reflection of Burton's visual imagination. In addition, unforgettable highlights from Corpse Bride, the cult classic Beetlejuice, the gothic grandeur of Batman, and the razor-sharp drama of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street will be heard.
During this performance, La Chapelle Sauvage Burtons brings worlds to life in unique arrangements. Expect captivating melodies, powerful instrumental colors, and an atmosphere that shifts in the blink of an eye: from macabre to magical, from intimate to epic.
This is not just a concert with film music, but a live theatrical experience. The mysterious magic of the evening arises from the interplay between the musicians, the surrounding architecture, lighting, and the music itself.
Imagine yourself in a Tim Burton film!Sun 8 Nov · 17:00–18:00Concertzaal Lemmensinstituut · Leuvenfrom €45
MusicOpen MicA few vocal cords, a guitar, or a piano: the only thing you need to create a hit. De Open Mic evenings in Het Depot have meanwhile become a seasoned concept in Leuven. In the meantime, the concept was sprinkled with a new sauce, but the recipe remains unchanged: a cozy, casual café evening where singer-songwriters get the chance to completely do their own thing, where visitors can discover talent that is still hot and fresh off the griddle. Established values including Meskerem Mees, Selah Sue, Kids With Buns, and Johannes is zijn Naam have already warmed up the stage for new and bubbling blood such as Caspar Auwerkerken, Rosa Butsi, Noonzy, Isaac Roux, and and so many more. At the end of the evening, a surprise musician who is on the verge of a breakthrough always shines. Structures, chaos, patterns, or order? Anything goes, everything is allowed. Come listen to a contagious mix of all music genres. Circle every first Wednesday of the month in your agenda because that is when our Open Mic always takes place. MusicWe the Neighborhoods / fABULEUS & Het Kwartier - Carl von WinckelmannA group of young people grows up in a city that is slowly sinking into the ground. It is only a few millimeters per year, but still it feels as if the earth is fleeing from under their feet. That places each of them before a difficult choice: leave or stay? Can they even leave, or are they condemned to sit it out here? While the foundations are literally wobbling, the young people seek support from each other. How should they give direction to the present and to their future in this unstable reality?
Voor Wij de Wijken six young people under the guidance of author and director Carl von Winckelmann stepped into a collective writing process, to describe a world in rapid transition, simultaneously directionless and full of doubts. Where are we now? Who are we now? How can you still shape your own identity, if the place where you are is constantly changing? Seven other young people play the new text. In this way Het Kwartier and fABULEUS bring their strengths together: writing new, own texts and working with young people in a professional context.

MusicTrio Da Kali (ML) & The Zawose Queens (TZ)You could certainly call Trio Da Kali a supergroup, with roots deeply embedded in Mali’s musical heritage. The trio performs authentic music rich in cultural depth and timeless beauty. The band consists of singer Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté (daughter of Kassé Mady Diabaté, one of the greatest voices in African music), balafon player Lassana Diabaté and bass ngoni player Mamadou Kouyaté (son of Bassekou Kouyaté, a master of the ngoni or West African lute).
Trio Da Kali combines traditional griot music with modern influences such as jazz and funk, without losing its essence. Hawa’s voice is clear and expressive, while Lassana and Mamadou provide a rich, rhythmic and harmonious foundation.
Da Kali means ‘to give a pledge’, in this case to the musical heritage of the Mande-jeli (hereditary lineages of musicians) dating back to the time of Sunjata Keita, founder of the great Malian Empire. They carry on that tradition to this day, a heritage that has been preserved and passed down since the 13th century.
This year, they released their first solo album, Bagola, as the follow-up to their 2017 hit album Ladilikan in collaboration with the Kronos Quartet. The album also touches on topical issues, such as in the track Orpaillage, which deals with the impact of gold mining in Mali. Bagola is a powerful tribute to cultural connection and musical innovation – music that is rooted in tradition yet continues to resonate universally.

Mark Guiliana BEAT MUSIC
Born out of relentless exploration of rhythm and sonic textures, BEAT MUSIC pulses with an electrifying fusion of jazz, electronic, and experimental sounds, captivating audiences worldwide with its dynamic and innovative performances.
Led by the visionary drummer and composer Mark Guiliana, this ensemble pushes the boundaries of contemporary music, creating a sonic journey that defies categorization.
Beat Music 2.0 is coming fall 2026.
Mark Guiliana’s passion for both jazz drumming and electronic music is unmistakable in his playing. From bebop to hip-hop and breakbeats, he moves effortlessly across styles. It is no coincidence that he was invited to contribute to major projects such as Blackstar, David Bowie’s final album, and Mehliana, the electro-jazz duo with Brad Mehldau.
It will also be a welcome return for Leuven’s jazz audience. Guiliana previously appeared at Leuven Jazz 2018 as part of the now-legendary drummers edition paying tribute to the late Elvin Jones.
For fans of David Bowie’s Blackstar, J Dilla, Squarepusher, Elvin Jones, Art Blakey …Meral Polat
A contemporary interpretation of traditional Anatolian music: Meral Polat infuses the Kurdish soul with raw blues energy and unfiltered emotion. In her quartet, she creates hypnotic soundscapes that resonate deeply.
Her debut album Ez Kî Me was a contemporary interpretation of the Anatolian repertoire: sometimes a battle cry, other times a tender call for identity and solidarity. This album was nominated for the prestigious Songlines Music Award and the UPBEAT Best New Talent Award 2024.
On her new album Meydan, Polat is backed by a fresh line-up, and reveals an innovative aspect of her sound: a blend in which different eras and cultures merge into a powerful, contemporary language. Meydan gives a voice to women who forge their own path and celebrates female strength. Musically, the album leans towards more rhythm, groove and rock ’n’ roll – telling tales of resistance, struggle and solidarity in the ongoing quest for women’s rights.,Fri 13 Nov · 20:00–22:0030CC/Schouwburg · Leuvenfrom €28
