VHM: On a Tree Safari in BertembosMiscVHM: On a Tree Safari in BertembosBertembos is an old forest with an area of approximately 100ha. It has long been managed as a coppice forest. Beech and pedunculate oak make up 75% of the tree population, but red oak, sycamore, sweet chestnut, hornbeam, and sweet cherry are also abundantly present. We go in search of trees that stand out for their thickness and height or for a special shape, an unusual leaf, or a strange trunk. We also discover a rare tree species.Sun 1 Nov · 14:00–16:30Parking aan hoek Bosstraat/Oude Bertemboslaan ter hoogte van Bosstraat 197 · LeuvenFree

Guided walk: Leuven city cemeteryMiscGuided walk: Leuven city cemeteryGuided walk in Leuven along the city cemetery. Discover a special place full of heritage, nature and stories about farewells, remembrance and city history.... De Stadsbegraafplaats van Leuven Op de Stadsbegraafplaats of Leuven we meet people who helped shape the history of the city: mayors, war victims, comrades who lost their lives during the bloody night, star children, but also people who donated their bodies to science. During this Blik Historik guided tour, we explore this special place where mourning, tranquility and nature come together. We discover how the cemetery was laid out, what choices were made in its design and how it evolved over time. At the same time, we pause to reflect on the social history that is tangibly present here. We walk past impressive grave chapels, memorial monuments and special resting places. Together they tell the story of Leuven: a city of workers and professors, of social struggle and scientific progress, of personal loss and collective memory. GevelfeestTheatreGevelfeestWhat’s the biggest instrument you’ve ever played? Is it bigger than the Schouwburg? For the 20th edition of Rode Hond, the Schouwburg’s façade will be transformed into a monumental xylophone. You can play the façade from the pavement. Each note is given its own colour, and every combination creates a new surprise. Using light, sound and special effects, Bram Lattré creates a cheerful birthday spectacle in the city.Thu 5 Nov · 16:0030CC/Schouwburg · LeuvenUntil 8 Nov

Daily life in occupied Leuven (1914 – 1918)MiscDaily life in occupied Leuven (1914 – 1918)De Duitse troops have swept through the city and the front has bogged down in the mud of the Yser plain. It will not be a quick war; it will be a war of attrition that will last four years. Belgium is squeezed like a lemon by the German occupier. The citizens too are driven to the limit to survive. Entire life is determined by rules; nothing escapes the stranglehold of the General Government. Every spot is good for growing vegetables. People collect tree bark for their stoves and learn to cook creatively. The citizen seeks inventive solutions to appease hunger and tries to circumvent the rules, with all consequences ensuing. We walk among the ruins left by the fire of August 1914, in search of traces of human tragedies.Wed 11 Nov · 13:30–15:30Trappen Stadhuis · Leuvenfrom €10 VHM: Autumn in Arenbergpark 2MiscVHM: Autumn in Arenbergpark 2Saturday, November 14 at 2:00 PM Guide: Hetty Stinissen + students hetty@vhm.be 0478 49 63 93 2.5 km - 2h30 Entrance to Arenberg Castle (at bridge over the Dyle) Kardinaal Mercierlaan 94, 3001 Heverlee 50.863077, 4.683531 We continue to enjoy autumn in Arenberg Park.
