Matthias Van den Brande - Jazz in the Academy Hall

Three generations of jazz musicians meet for a one-time concert. improvisation – intimate – stimulating – intense - instrumental Saxofonist Matthias Van den Brande (°1993) has built an impressive career in recent years, with studies in Amsterdam and Philadelphia and a series of awards with his own band. Recently he returned to Belgium, where he was picked up by the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, among others. For this special concert in the Academiezaal, Van den Brande invites two distinct musical personalities. Argentine guitarist Agus Fulka (°2000), based in Amsterdam, moves effortlessly between jazz, flamenco, and live electronics, with a strong focus on improvisation and intercultural stories. Drummer Dré Pallemaerts (°1964), a key figure within the Belgian and international jazz scene, worked with greats like Toots Thielemans, Joe Lovano, Mark Turner, Bert Joris, Yusef Lateef, ... and left a lasting mark on multiple generations of musicians with his playing and as a pedagogue at conservatories (Paris and Leuven). Before and after the concert and during the break, the DJs of Jazz Heks Sound System will play the tastiest records from their collection in culture café de Fwajee. Drink included in your ticket.
