Geert Hendrickx - Jazz in the Academy Hall

Gitarist Geert Hendrickx is putting together a trio especially for this concert. Improvisation – virtuoso – accessible – instrumental - acoustic Geert Hendrickx (guitar), Werend Van Den Bossche (alto saxophone), and Simon Raman (drums) form a bass-less trio that focuses on subtlety, space, and intense interaction. In the spirit of the famous Paul Motian Trio, an open, breathing sound world is created in which every note counts and interplay is central. With compositions by Geert Hendrickx as a starting point, supplemented with reworkings from the Motian repertoire and influences from the standard repertoire, the music balances between fragility and tension. Improvisation is not a means, but the core of the musical story. The three musicians share a rich playing history, from diverse projects to countless jam sessions. Geert Hendrickx and Simon Raman find each other within Yskan, while Hendrickx and Werend Van Den Bossche work together in a brand-new project that is still in the pipeline, at the intersection of jazz and americana. In this unique line-up, their voices flow together into an idiosyncratic and layered whole.
