After her disarming performance ELENA (2015), Elena Peeters reports in Johnyboy on a road trip that grabs you by the scruff of the neck.
Three years after her walking pilgrimage to Rome, she seeks out connection again, in a slightly less obvious way. No pilgrimage this time, but a visit to the most heavily guarded prison in Texas. There she met three pen pals: one got life imprisonment and the other two the death penalty. 'Who has the right to decide on someone's life?', the theater maker wonders. 'I mainly try to show what I have seen and bring my own doubt to the fore in the performance.'
Johnyboy is a rock-solid monologue and a search for beauty and answers.
