The Diary of Edward, Nihilistic Hamster (1990-1990) [Theatre]

Place de l'Hocaille 1, Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve
A professor specialized in the behavior and language of families' favorite rodent shares with us this evening her surprising discovery: a diary, written by the very paw of a cute little pet hamster, Edward.
Cute? Really? From his condition as a captive animal and despite the humdrum routine of his mundane days, Edward expresses in his posthumous writings his philosophical, nihilistic and disillusioned thoughts on the mysteries of life and the world around him. A mirror of our existence, his cage becomes a metaphor for modern society where routine, confinement and the quest for meaning coexist.
Touched up from a short English comic strip by Miriam and Ezra Elia, Edward's Le Journal is a humorous and satirical work in which black humor, cynicism and the absurd mingle.
On stage, two spaces - one human-sized, the other hamster-sized - are inhabited by two exceptional actresses, Véronique Dumont and Brigitte Dedry.
It is obvious: Edward is not just a hamster, he is a state of mind!
