Under the name ssaliva, Boulanger has been making hypnotic and ethereal soundscapes since 2011. Especially for this Ruiskamer, he and partner in crime 0comeups are writing a piece of electro-acoustic music that will be performed by GAME. In addition, he invites this sound collage for a live set. ssaliva himself will perform an Audiovisual live set with London sound and video artist Nicola Tirabasso aka VISIO.
About ssaliva
François Boulanger is an audiovisual artist, born in Liège, Belgium, in 1983. In the late 90s/early 2000s, he started making music and photography/collages.
In 2011, he started his experimental project « ssaliva ». After having worked on alternative hip-hop and dance beats for years as Cupp Cave, he developed hypnotizing soundscapes based on sparse rhythms, lush sounds and crystallized textures. A personal and romantic representation of a life amidst nature and the pollution of the city.
His work as ssaliva also consists of capturing places that are as ethereal as they are remote in photos, two obsessive and lonely processes that have led him to collect thousands of strange, escapist mental landscapes. Sometimes ghostly, sometimes sacred, an instantly recognizable form of melancholy.
About 0comeups
The work of 0comeups is described as epic collage: vast, richly layered compositions that hover between sound art and memory. His music is located in an emotional space that feels almost sacred and that evokes nostalgia and loneliness, shaped by gray skies and tall apartment buildings, fields and forests, seclusion and melancholy. The songs unfold like changing landscapes and reveal new details with every listen, while restlessness gives way to moments of sublime peace.
About VISIO
VISIO is the stage name of the London-based musician and visual artist Nicola Tirabasso. In his work, which spans sound, moving image and visual composition, he explores the mysterious boundaries between reality and the inexplicable. From fictional imaginary worlds, folk symbolism, internet mythologies and antiquarian visual culture, he constructs fragmented worlds in which deliberate anachronism and artificiality become means to question memory, authenticity and contemporary stories.
Since becoming an integral part of the Macao collective in Milan, Tirabasso has played an active role in the independent cultural world. Later, he founded the London-based initiatives Nocturnal Reflections and Club Mutante. Over the years, he has developed a multidisciplinary practice that includes live performances, installations, film and graphic design, collaborating with artists such as ssaliva, Heith, Penny Rimbaud, Rustan Söderling and Günseli Yalcinkaya.
In 2022, VISIO released his debut LP 'Privacy Angels' via Haunter Records, an album that explores mythological stories, digital spirituality and fragmented memories through experimental song structures and immersive sound designs. In 2024, he presented the solo exhibition 'Fools Circel 9wys' in Milan, curated by Threes and with the collaboration of Penny Rimbaud. In 2026, he released 'Trickstar', an audiovisual collaboration project with ssaliva, accompanied by a video by Noel Oplinger.
His work has been presented internationally through exhibitions, film screenings and performances at venues and institutions such as the ICA, South London Gallery, Camden Arts Centre, Lafayette Anticipations, Swiss Institute, Club To Club, Cripta747, Spazio Maiocchi, Fondazione Elpis and Neo Shibuya. In 2025, he joined the roster of the SHAPE+ Platform.
In addition to his artistic practice, Tirabasso develops publications, visual identities and collaborative projects for artists, labels and cultural institutions, including AD93, 4AD, PAN, Halcyon Veil, Editions Mego, Centre Pompidou, Empty Gallery, Pitchfork, Versace, LOST Festival, VTSS and Slam Jam.
