Joe Jackson, the chameleon of sophisticated pop music, returns to the present and his familiar musical playing field with ‘Hope and Fury’. The unpredictable British musician Joe Jackson has a lot of beauty in store for 2026. On April 10, his new album ‘Hope and Fury’ will be released, followed by a major international tour with no fewer than three performances in Belgium. Together with his band, he will present the new album on November 24 in De Vooruit. With ‘Hope and Fury’, which he describes himself as “Bicoastal LatinJazzFunkRock”, Jackson returns to the present and to his familiar musical playing field with nine energetic songs. After the basis of the album was laid in Berlin, Jackson returned together with co-producer Patrick Dillett to the Reservoir Studios in New York. There he found his regular musicians again: bassist Graham Maby, guitarist Teddy Kumpel, and drummer Doug Yowell. Nieuwkomer Paulo Stagnaro, a Peruvian percussionist, adds a Latin American touch to the whole. The result is reminiscent of a cross between ‘Fool’ (2019), ‘Laughter and Lust’ (1991), and ‘Night and Day’ (1982). Just like these classics, ‘Hope and Fury’ is full of catchy melodies, original lyrics, characteristic humor, and funky grooves, with vocals and keys that are more powerful than ever. Don't miss this chance to discover ‘Hope and Fury’ live in De Vooruit! Since his breakthrough at the end of the seventies, Jackson has constantly explored the boundaries between pop, jazz, classical, and rock. His career testifies to an indomitable curiosity and a refusal to be pinned down to one genre. Raised in a working-class family in Portsmouth, he found refuge in music early on due to his asthma. After studies at the Royal Academy of Music, he founded the Joe Jackson Band in 1977. With 'Look Sharp!' and the hit 'Is She Really Going Out with Him?' he broke through internationally. His combination of sharp lyrics and melodic pop became his trademark. Jackson's career is a series of musical transformations: from new wave and ska to swing and the sophisticated pop-jazz of 'Night and Day', with world hits like 'Steppin’ Out'. Albums like 'Body & Soul' and 'Big World' confirmed his reputation as a perfectionist and innovative composer. From the late eighties, he increasingly explored classical and film music, including with 'Will Power' and 'Symphony No. 1', which won a Grammy. His autobiography A Cure for Gravity revealed him primarily as a composer rather than a pop star. Yet he remained faithful to pop with, among others, 'Night and Day II', 'Rain', and 'Fast Forward'. Recent projects, such as 'Fool' and 'What a Racket!', show that his creativity is undiminished. Jackson remains a musical chameleon: curious, uncompromising, and always innovative. His oeuvre proves that integrity and imagination last longer than fashion or fame. For fans of Elvis Costello, Suzanne Vega, Squeeze, Robert Palmer
