"Mujeres de la Tierra"
About lost love, memories, and the strength to start over.
A poetic encounter between singing, piano, and dance, inspired by the enchanting world of La casa de los espíritus (The House of the Spirits), the famous debut novel by Isabel Allende.
Three performers take the public on a musical and visual journey from Spain to Latin America. Spanish folk songs, compelling piano music, and dance flow together in a story full of love and loss, tenderness and resilience.
Met Irene Álvarez (dance), Anna Pardo Canedo (vocals), and Andrew Wise (piano).
Central are the Siete canciones populares españolas by Manuel de Falla. Behind these seven Spanish folk songs seems to hide a hidden story. In Stemmen, Movement, Memory gives that story a new form, in which music, voice, and movement complement and reinforce each other.
Met de Danzas Argentinas van Alberto Ginastera the performance moves to Argentina. Three contrasting dances for solo piano burst with rhythm, energy, and color — music that almost automatically asks for movement and forms a special inspiration for the choreography of Irene Álvarez.
The evening culminates in Ginastera's Cinco canciones populares argentinas. Here, vocals, piano, and dance completely come together. Sometimes vibrant and rousing, then again quiet, tender, and intimate.
Voices, Movement, Memory is a performance in which stories are not only told, but also sung, played, and danced.
