The Stranger

François Ozon ventures into a daring adaptation of the existential classic by Albert Camus. Meursault is a detached Frenchman in Algeria who, shortly after his mother's funeral, kills a man on a sun-drenched beach, seemingly without motive. The subsequent trial revolves less around the murder than around Meursault's disconcerting indifference toward the conventions of society.
