La Ratte (NL)

La Ratte is a young, energetic three-man formation. The band initially started as a duo, where Jochem Jorissen accompanied the two-man band on drums and Harm van Essen positioned himself as lead guitarist and singer. A series of attic room recordings by Harm propelled La Ratte in a new direction. The new material required a bassist to play the songs live. \"Nikolas Karolewicz joined the band as a result.\" Since the end of '21, the band has been thriving on the excellent synergy of Harm's idiosyncratic songwriting, gritty vocals, and fiery guitar playing, Jochem’s explosive drum style, and Nikolas's old-school bass groove. The band delivers a contemporary blues sound, with a swampy, catchy roots album. The debut album, Astray, was recorded in 7 days in Studio De Krakeling, built in a squat in the woods of Zeist. All eleven songs explore a different side of American roots music, and draw inspiration from the energy of Texas Blues, hypnotic Mississippi Hill Country groove, and the infectiousness of Louisiana Swamp Pop. After the raw energy of Astray, La Ratte returns with Triptyque de La Ratte, a three-part sonic journey that pushes their sound into both new and familiar territory.
