Junebug is a cinematic and tactile performance about the things within ourselves that we’d rather not look at, such as escapism, loneliness and the meaninglessness of existence. In a light-hearted yet mystical way, Anna Verkouteren Jansen shows how we all deal with this great void in our own way. As you are drawn into the Paris, Texas-esque inner world of the lonely butch June, a strange, sensitive and darkly comic story unfolds. June leads a quiet life in a log cabin in the Deep South of the US. Surrounded by woods, she spends her days in front of the TV, until the signal starts to cut out. With the noise hot on our heels, we race through an American dreamscape of TV psychics, takeaway burritos, misty motel rooms and ghosts from the past. Reality and imagination blend seamlessly in this mind-bending sound film. Through surround sound (designed by Ard Kok) and a touch of fairy-tale fantasy, you’ll find yourself immersed in June’s world of escapism, grief, Mariah Carey and empty rooms. Junebug pushes reality slightly aside and reveals what is stirring behind the curtains: a place that is invisible, but all the more palpable. Anna Verkouteren Jansen performs all the voices herself and worked closely with composer Ard Kok. >>> This performance is part of Unstoppable
