After nineteen years of forced labor for stealing a loaf of bread, Jean Valjean (Vincent Lindon) is released as an embittered man. Under a new identity, he manages to build a respected existence. When the dying Fantine (Noémie Merlant) begs him to take care of her daughter, he promises to rescue little Cosette from the hands of the Thénardiers, who exploit and mistreat her. But Valjean finds it much harder to escape his own past.
Grandly staged, epic, and pure cinema! Regisseur Fred Cavay brings Victor Hugo's monumental classic back to the big screen as a sweeping historical drama about poverty, injustice, compassion, and redemption. Featuring an impressive French cast: Vincent Lindon (Titane), Tahar Rahim (Un prophète), Noémie Merlant (Portrait of a Lady on Fire), Camille Cottin (Call My Agent!), and Benjamin Lavernhe (In the Climax / En fanfare).
