Abysses

Seven hybrid creatures emerge in a disturbing science-fiction landscape, deploying shifting pop, a fascinating dance made of undulations and jerks. Avec Abîmes, Linda Hayford and their companions transform the stage into a moving futuristic universe, populated by emotional cyborgs, which disturbs the audience's perception. An expert in popping, Linda Hayford drew from the vocabulary of this hip-hop style with rhythmic muscle contractions to invent her own language: shifting pop. Dans Abîmes, she shares the stage with six fellow dancers to embrace this metamorphic dance, whose driving force relies on the performers' emotional changes. In front of distorting mirrors with psychedelic reflections, a post-human hybrid community is revealed. The choreographer, a member of the FAIR-E collective and co-director of the National Choreographic Center of Rennes and Brittany, was inspired by musical artists James Blake, Kendrick Lamar Duckworth and Björk to create a mesmerizing atmosphere, transcribed in the sound design by Mackenzie Bergile. In this misty landscape, the performers trace geometric trajectories Pac-Man style, becoming the living avatars of a video game.
