Iphigenia – de Roovers

De Portugese writer and theater maker Tiago Rodrigues rewrites the Greek tragedy Iphigenia in Aulis in a radical way. Iphigenia is no longer the will-less sacrifice of her father, but takes her fate into her own hands. Tiago switches between different versions and perspectives, where history turns into memory and dialogue. What remains of the original story? Who bears responsibility? And how can you resist? The piece shows that war is not only political, but above all has a human price. de Roovers stand on stage together with five young actors and, with multiple generations, bring a classic theme clearly and accessibly. The result is a layered performance that shows how relevant traditional text theater can be today.
