Five generations of female players bring a quirky adaptation of Shakespeares The Merry Wives of Windsor. On and off stage, they confront the character Falstaff, while reality constantly breaks through the play. Conflicts in the wings and a direction that becomes part of the story let fiction and reality blend into each other.
What starts as a classic play grows into a playful theater matryoshka, in which characters, players, and makers become intertwined. With humor, sharpness, and unexpected twists, Falstaff offers a fresh interpretation of Shakespeare and of the opera versions by Verdi, Nicolai, and Williams.
