See Naples (and die)

Fri, 29 Jan 2027 · 20:00
Compagnie Cecilia, Ghent
€16–24
Two cyclists ride up Vesuvius. They conquer and sing about the volcano, the danger, and their relatively risk-free life full of Sunday bike rides, news apps, and fire insurance. They wonder if they can exorcise the slumbering feeling of unease - are they really safe despite their favorable place of residence? - with Neapolitan songs and stories. Meanwhile, they continue cycling, surrounded by a living space full of images and music. 'Napels zien (en sterven)' is an investigation into living on a planet in crisis. How do we deal with slumbering threats in a society without narratives, without perspective, and without a soundtrack? How do we give shape to unease? Six makers consult history, folk music, stories, and inhabitants of Naples and the surrounding area: experts by experience in living next to, on, and with a volcano. The result is a site-specific portrait of a global condition - polyphonic, musical, and multidisciplinary.
