1957, Moscow.
In the midst of the Cold War and the Space Race, Laika, a tiny puppy, roams the freezing streets of the city. She has no idea that her destiny will take her far beyond Earth. On board the spacecraft Sputnik II, she will go down in history as the first living creature to orbit the Earth. At the same time, Laika becomes a silent witness to the abuse of power and human ambitions over which she has no control.
In this poetic and visually rich performance, Xirriquiteula Teatre employs a wide range of techniques: live rear projections, puppets, automatons, shadow play and live acting. The characters speak in a playful pseudo-Russian, accompanied by an impressive soundtrack. Every element is carefully woven into a harmonious whole, the result of a long and intense collective creative process in which each actor contributes their own expertise.
A heart-warming and moving performance about dreams, stars and honesty on earth.
Laika has already won countless international awards – don’t miss this crowd favourite!
