A moving performance in a Christmas atmosphere
From the thick fairy-tale book by H.C. Andersen
Een, a beautiful and moving fairy-tale about a girl living on the street. It takes place around Christmas time. She has to earn her living by selling matches. That is not going well and more and more she starts longing for her grandma. Grandma always took care of her until she died. The girl was left all alone on the street. At the end of the story, grandma and the girl come together again. When you see how happy the girl is, it is not such a sad ending after all.
Christmas is the festival of light. In this performance, light is central in all kinds of ways. Not only literally, but also figuratively, because the lighting provides many surprise elements.
The premise of the story is not something to cheer you up, but through the special approach of the puppeteer, the girl's death is put in a completely different light, giving the performance something light and comforting.
