Ten years after their last appearance in Lokeren, the Franco-Belgische Gratitude Trio returns to the familiar club to present their newest album Birth. De Brusselse band, which has guaranteed a quirky mix of power and sensitivity since 2010, has evolved markedly over the years.
Where the group initially started as a powerful power trio with albums like Gratitude (2012) and Alive (2015), the addition of voice and electronics – including the Electronic Wind Instrument (EWI) – brought a sweeping renewal. It yields a sound palette in which the spirit of John Coltrane is never far away, while the musicians simultaneously pursue a very personal, contemporary dynamic.
It will be a performance in which rousing electronic sounds, subtle African influences, sensual grooves and sensitive ballads alternate. No well-trodden paths, but an evening full of playing fun, trance and the necessary portion of unpredictability.
"the majestic Favre' cymbal sound ( ...) a shadowy mystery with a fragile, almost pastoral serenity(...) warm-blooded , complex interplay, sly grooves and passionate and ( still ) underrated play of Van Herzeele" Guy Peters (cobra.be)
