Four string instruments, four cultures, one intoxicating stream of consciousness Matthew Barley looked for musicians with whom it is nice to bow and pluck, and found Hanna Ryynänen on Finnish kantele, Adriano Adewale on Brazilian berimbau, and Dawda Jobarteh on Gambian kora. That makes 51 strings that willingly let themselves be teased, plucked, and caressed in arrangements of dances and lullabies from four corners of the world. The lullabies show themselves from their darkest side, the grooves bring relief. 'Designed improvisations' – templates with structure and a bit of content – ensure that every performance is a cousin of the previous and the next.
