Retina Maneuver - Ping-Hsiang Wang

In a layered performance, Ping-Hsiang Wang starts from a pop song to investigate his past in Taiwan through digital traces and personal memories. Ping-Hsiang Wang has an inexplicable obsession with Alicia Keys’ pop song and queer anthem ‘Girl On Fire’. He wants to remember exactly where he was when the song came out in 2012. An extensive search in his digital archives yields an old Facebook photo that confronts him with his military past in Taiwan. Retina Maneuver is a cleverly constructed lecture performance full of references to Western pop culture.
