Nubiyan Twist

What do you get when you unleash a bunch of virtuoso musicians, tough producers, and inspired composers on hip-hop, afrobeat, UK Jazz, and soul? Nubiyan Twist! This nine-piece ensemble originated in 2011 at the Leeds College of Music and is seen as one of the leading bands in the flourishing British groove scene. Nubiyan Twist mixes jazz-impro, brass, and global sounds and is known for their driving live sound and tons of playing pleasure. Nubiyan Twist is housed on the fine Strut Records (see also Mulatu Astatke, Iris Ackamoor, Seun Kuti, and Sun Ra Arkestra) and is the band in the home country UK that is called when a solid party is planned. On their fourth album ‘Find Your Flame’ (2024), the group perfected their sound with the help of fine folks like Seun Kuti, Nile Rodgers, Ego Ela Mai, and Corto Alto. Nubiyan Twist is not standing still, because in 2026 they are releasing another record with contributions from, among others, Fatoumata Diawara and Joe Armon Jones! In 2025, Nubiyan Twist was the hit of Cactusfestival and set the park on fire with their steaming big band sound.
