Jah Wobble plays 'Metal Box Rebuilt In Dub'

Thu, 26 Nov 2026 · 19:30
Cactus Muziekcentrum, Bruges
€24–31
Together with the lamented Keith Levene and John Lydon, the British bassist Jah Wobble founded the influential post-punk band Public Image Ltd in 1978. Besides Levene's cutting guitar, his hypnotic, dub and krautrock-based bass lines were a fundamental element of the P.I.L. sound, which was perfected on their classic 1979 album Metal Box. It made Jah Wobble one of the most influential bassists of the post-punk era. Of P.I.L., only the Lydon who converted to a Trump fan remains in 2026, who tried in vain to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2023. After leaving the band in 1980, Jah Wobble focused again on his old love: Jamaican dub and reggae. Together with his new band Jah Wobble and The Invaders of the Heart, he combines this with world music and electronic elements. In 2021, Wobble brought the circle to a close with his reinterpretation of the P.I.L. classic: Metal Box Rebuilt in Dub. Together with The Invaders of the Heart, he translated eight tracks from the album into mind-expanding and meticulously crafted dub compositions, without losing sight of the cold and nihilistic post-punk sound of the original. De Metal Box Rebuilt in Dub shows by Jah Wobble are a rare opportunity to see one of the most important bassists of the last fifty years at work in his natural habitat, and are only played exceptionally. In the autumn, Wobble Metal Box brings to Bruges: a unique experience for fans of post-punk, dub, and music history in general.
