Shaking Hand is a trio from Manchester that has made an adventurous mix of slowcore and post-rock in different tunings and time signatures their trademark. In doing so, the band is inspired by modernist architecture, 90s alt-rock, and midwestern emo. They themselves name acts like Slint, Sonic Youth, and Pavement as influences for their immediately recognizable, stripped-down bass-drum-guitar sound, supplemented with melodic edges that they get from Big Thief and the dynamics of Yo La Tengo. On their self-titled debut record that came out earlier this year, Shaking Hand proves that they can weave all those influences together in an inimitable way. From slow-burning indie rock anthems to post-hardcore built on abstract rhythms: the whole record is a trip along the most exciting corners of experimental rock. It made Shaking Hand an instant Duyster favorite and earned the group a spot on the Pukkelpop line-up. Come discover them in Cactus Café! "Spindly riffs and rugged post-hardcore rhythms a la Slint and Sonic Youth" – Stereogum "This Manchester trio make post-rock indie like they grew up in Minnesota" - Brooklyn Vegan "Contorting post-rock and shape-shifting experimental rock with an edgy, restless, underground pulse steeped in a love for 1990s American alternative rock." - KEXP
