There she experiences a carefree youth on Vancouver Island, filled with sunny, carefree days at the beach. She plays with her brothers, cautiously strikes up friendships, and discovers the freedom of her new home. But beneath that carefree, cheerful surface, darkness bubbles up: her older brother Jeremy is struggling with himself, and his increasingly strange and unpredictable behavior puts pressure on the family. Sasha does not understand what is tormenting her brother, but nevertheless seeks his proximity. In a rare moment of connection, Jeremy gives her a small, stolen keychain featuring a blue heron. ‘BLUE HERON’ is a moving, melancholic, and tenderly sad look back at the lost innocence of childhood and the capriciousness of memory. Magnificent film! BLUE HERON Directed by: Sophy Romvari CDN-HUN 2026, 90 min. The press about ‘BLUE HERON': ”Blue Heron’ is the moving gem that you must not miss.’ – VRT.be ‘An extraordinarily moving film that, just like the wonderful ‘Aftersun’ from 2022, simultaneously exhales sadness, regret, serenity, and comforting melancholy.’ – Humo ‘The autofictional Blue Heron is both intimate and unrelenting.’ (★★★★) – Knack Focus ‘‘Blue Heron’, about an all-determining summer and a troubled brother, is gripping and unforgettable.” (★★★★) – De Volkskrant ‘In her striking, understated debut, the Canadian-Hongaarse Sophy Romvari attempts to mold a new outcome out of her fragmentary memories. (★★★★) – De Standaard ‘Every once in a while, a film comes along that puts all senses on edge. It is the way director Romvari films a summer in the nineties. ‘Blue Heron’ is a feature film, but with the allure of a home-movie-like documentary, so casually and sparklingly natural is the summery family drama captured.’ (★★★★★) - Trouw
