In the comedy performance ‘Live vanuit de Wetstraat’, Bert Gabriëls gives a unique look behind the scenes of our executive power. Bert has been working since 2021 as a lawyer at the Cabinet for Asylum and Migration, first under the wings of Sammy Mahdi and subsequently Nicole de Moor, and follows from the front row how things really go behind the scenes of the political cabinets. ‘Live vanuit de Wetstraat’ is a comedy show full of sharp jokes, absurd insights and impossible situations as only Bert can string them together, but this time in the wonderful setting of Belgian politics. What do politicians do when the cameras aren't rolling? How do you write a law? Can there be a joke in it? What happens if you give wrong advice? Who is really in charge? Why does it go wrong? You will find out everything, in between the laughing. And just as it goes with series like ‘Borgen’ or ‘House of Cards’, the truth is often even a bit tougher. Over Bert Gabriëls Als lawyer, Bert worked among other things at the Dienst Vreemdelingenzaken in Antwerp, Dienst Integratie Antwerpen, Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen, Vlaams Minderhedencentrum and for several years at the cabinet Asylum and Migration. In addition, he is also a comedy and theater maker. As a solo stand-up comedian, he has already toured with five theater shows, inspired by his job as a lawyer. He also writes, directs and plays theater performances, own productions but also for other companies. On television, he presented the Canvas program ‘Zonde van de Zendtijd’ together with Henk Rijckaert. In 2015, he went to Iraq for the program ‘Terug naar eigen land’ with a number of well-known Flemish people to follow the route that refugees take on their way to Europe. Video
