W.E.R.F. records invites Ola Tunji x Mother Tongue

Ola Tunji is a Brussels quartet with saxophonist Ornella Noulet as bandleader. Their music is rooted in the spiritual jazz of John and Alice Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, and Albert Ayler. Their name refers to Babatunde Olatunji, the Nigerian percussionist who played an important role in the rhythmic and spiritual renewal of jazz in the sixties. The group approaches improvisation as an open, collective practice. Their concerts often build up to an intense, trance-like concentration in which musicians and audience are drawn along together. With their Untitled EP (2024), which was also re-released on vinyl in 2026, Ola Tunji attracted international attention. In 2025, the band won both the jury and audience prize of Gent Jazz Talent and the competition of Avignon Jazz Festival, where Ornella Noulet was also awarded as Best Soloist. Currently, the quartet is working on its first full-length album for W.E.R.F. Records, planned for autumn 2026.
